Reimagining Learning by Integrating Bloom's Taxonomy and Generative AI in Higher Education * Advancing meaningful learning in the age of AI Bloom's Taxonomy is a valuable tool for higher education faculty to assess the different' levels' of learning targeted by course-level outcomes. It also helps align activities and assessments that support student learning and success. In this context, authors applied Bloom’s Taxonomy to rethink course outcomes and student learning in the era of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). The educators' role is crucial in identifying necessary changes to promote meaningful learning and exploring opportunities for thoughtful integration of GenAI in student use. In considering and reflecting on the impacts of AI in education, I really enjoyed this short course from King's College London on #GenAI in #HE on FutureLearn. It not only encouraged reflection on the use of #AI in Learning, Teaching and Assessment, but it demonstrated some of the radical implications of AI, highlighted that it's not the 'be all and end all', and shared the useful #PAIR framework for considering how to approach tasks through the use of AI (link in comments). "So, to summarise, there seems to be a future for AI-assisted learning, particularly for motivated adult learners in specific, well-defined topics (eg short courses, continuing personal development etc). However, incorporating AI into classrooms will be more challenging. It seems unlikely that AI will be replacing teachers any time soon." Just published: my first report at the World Bank! The paper, titled “100 Student Voices on AI and Education,” presents findings from focus group discussions on students’ knowledge, perceptions, and use of artificial intelligence (AI) for learning. In the report, Cristóbal, Alberto, and I highlight three interesting insights: 1. Students don’t just use AI tools such as ChatGPT to cheat. From data analysis to summarization, AI solutions serve a wide range of learning tasks. 2. In many countries, students appear to be more AI-savvy than their teachers. Students noted significant variations in teachers’ attitudes toward AI. They also highlighted that university guidance on the use of AI for teaching and learning was often lacking. 3. Finally, STEM students tend to have better knowledge of and experience with generative AI than students in fields like the humanities. This emerging “AI gap” is worth paying attention to. How should universities adapt to a world where chatbots are ubiquitous? How can we ensure that students and teachers have the skills needed to navigate this change in a safe and responsible manner?
