Great to present at yesterday's Acorn Alliance meeting, where I had the opportunity to talk to ambitious business owners and fellow Acorns about first-time hires and scaling up your team. I shared some valuable recruitment tips on when, why, and how to take the leap, planning to hire, the importance of creating the right environment and infrastructure before and after you recruit, and how to plan for growth through people. Some key takeaways from the presentation were: be bold and brave and go for it, be willing to trust and delegate, know the legal implications of becoming an employer, invest in your team and include them in future plans, have a business continuity plan for those you can't afford to lose, and build a retention strategy and training plan to retain their expertise. And remember, don't be afraid to admit when you've got it wrong and make tough decisions! Thanks to everyone who attended the meeting and engaged in the discussion.
