Lisbon is a special place for me especially when it comes to Web Summit. This journey of being a founder is a lot more than just tech and innovation. It’s about action and execution. For me travel has always been a form of personal education for me. It’s shaped me as a human not just in how I see the world but how I lead my alternative approach to building Ferna Tech. Prioritising travel and “work from anywhere” is how we are able to build excellent founders and scale excellent ventures for precise audiences. Heading back to Lisbon in a month with our Ferna Tech delegation — is a testament to why I do what I do. Building spaces for founders to grow and thrive globally and returning with a team and a group of community founders has made me the proudest CEO. 𝗠𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗹, 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆. Whenever you practice something new, don't focus on the fastest track. Just make sure you arrive and optimize your next journey. Taking the train from Guimarães to Lisbon, I had to make one transfer in Porto. Arriving at the beautiful Porto-São Bento, I learned my transfer was at Porto-Campanhã (one station earlier). Luckily, I had incorporated enought time to get my transfer. This reminded me about the following: • Every change starts with a quantitative movement first, before it becomes a qualitative one. • Don't focus on the fastest way, focus on progression and you will meet your destination. On Wednesday 12th June Bright Evolve will be exhibiting, for one day only, at London Tech Week 💪🏻 Specifically, we’re taking our platform, Ascent, on the road, having been offered the chance as part of the Tech Nation Rising Stars programme 💥 Perspective is a funny thing. Having it, and seeing the bigger picture, is crucial! We didn’t win our regional final of the Rising Stars pitch, and I was disappointed! But, in just a few weeks so much has come from that one moment, this exhibitor spot is just the latest benefit in a list which includes: * Signed a brand new client, who saw the pitch and ticks the box of our first ClimateTech client ✅ * Gained interest in Ascent from the leader of a network of Founders, who wants to offer the platform as a member ‘perk’ 📈 * Received important, constructive feedback on how I pitch the business and the platform! 💡 My reflection is definitely to be less self-critical, and stay focused on the bigger picture! Last month, I had the privilege of attending the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, an essential event for anyone in the tech and mobile industries. Over three action-packed days, I participated in 35 insightful meetings, mingling with a diverse crowd, from industry giants to startup folks. This year's highlight was delving into smart city technologies, which aligns perfectly with what's coming up for me and my partners. 🌳 The main issue for industry giants? Managing processes in digital marketing and product design & development when it reaches a point of no return and you have a team of more than 20 people. Something we do well for our global clients. ⚙️ The main issue for startups? Scaling their businesses in the digital world and finding tailor-made solutions for their product, software, services, you name it. We also tackle this issue due to the immense experience we've accumulated over almost 10 years of work. 🚀 Additionally, I was honored to visit the Lithuanian pavilion, coordinated by the Innovation Agency Lithuania, which showcased the innovative spirit and achievements of 12 Lithuanian tech firms. Believe it or not, one of the most impactful things was meeting with colleagues from Lithuania, illustrating how international events like MWC can foster local collaborations. 🇱🇹 I left MWC Barcelona with renewed energy and a more vital dedication to exploring new technologies, fostering partnerships, and contributing to the tech community. Bear with me as I try to gather my thoughts because I haven't been home for almost a month, and believe me, I've been around. 😅

I visited our Amsterdam and London offices at Klue last week. For other leaders that have growing offices in different geos, a couple reasons why you need to visit more frequently 👇 - Provide more clarity on decision-making. There's only so much context you can provide virtually on strategic decisions. Getting to sit down with folks on product direction is valuable to share the deeper 'why' behind these decisions. - Build connection as one team. These offices are a start-up within a start-up, but ultimately you're building one business with a common goal. Having brief 'water cooler' moments + social gatherings goes a long way. - Appreciate the cultural differences in the region you're doing business in. I went to VivaTech in Paris and couldn't believe just how different it was to typical US conferences. What stood out was the variety of languages spoken for one - it helps you realize the importance of multilingual NLP may be for our product in EMEA. -- It felt like stepping in a time machine in the London and Amsterdam offices; like I was back in the early Vancouver HQ days a decade ago. Blown away by these lean team with a big mission and the entrepreneurial spirit to get it done.

London, Paris, and Berlin competed to host the event. Surprisingly, Lisbon won. WebSummit is famous for its lineup of speakers, attracting everyone from top tech CEOs to artists, politicians, and sports stars. This year features Grammy-winning Pharrell Williams, basketball star Carmelo Anthony, and tech leader of Microsoft Brad Smith … And then there's the “Night Summit”—the twist on networking. Imagine: you're walking through Lisbon's neighborhoods, enjoying a drink, and striking up conversations with creative minds in a relaxed setting... Reflections from Africa Tech Festival 2024: Insights and Inspiration Attending Africa Tech Festival 2024 was an energising and thought-provoking experience. It wasn’t just about presenting or sitting in on panels—it was a chance to connect with like-minded people, share ideas, and reflect on how businesses can stay ahead in a fast-changing world. The festival also reaffirmed the role we play at COOi Studios in helping businesses tackle challenges and unlock opportunities using design thinking, data insights, and human-centred approaches. It was nerve-wracking, but also a reminder of how much I care about this work. Once I got started, the focus shifted to sharing our insights and engaging with the audience, which made the experience incredibly rewarding. 5. Connection Drives Growth The conversations—whether during sessions or in between them—were a highlight of the event. They underscored the importance of collaboration and how much we can learn from each other when we take the time to engage. Looking Ahead Africa Tech Festival was a reminder of how much innovation can happen when people come together to share ideas and expertise. I’m excited to take these insights forward and continue contributing to projects that put people at the centre of transformation.
