📈 Nvidia and other AI hardware giants are booming, but there's a catch. Their growth relies heavily on a small group of big tech spenders like Microsoft, Google, and Meta funneling billions into AI hardware—but what if these tech giants pull back? For companies like Nvidia, Super Micro, and Cerebras, customer concentration is a double-edged sword, driving rapid growth but also posing serious risks if demand from a few key clients shifts. 🔍 Jeremy Owens explains why investors should keep a close eye on this trend and what it could mean for the AI rally's future. #AI #Investing #Tech #Nvidia #BigTech #AIHardware

AI's future in the hands of a few big tech giants? 🤔 The tech acquisitions by industry leaders, buying #Nvidia’s H100 GPUs and the revolutionary Blackwell GPUs, might just change the field for AI innovation. Also, the #Microsoft's recent integration of Inflection AI's CEO, talent and tech got me thinking. It makes me wonder, what does this mean for the future of AI? With such high stakes and high costs (we are talking millions to train and operate models like GPT-4) is there room left for startups to bring fresh ideas to the table? Or is AI becoming the exclusive playground of the big tech? We all admire the incredible leaps in technology these companies achieve. Yet, how do we ensure that AI remains a diverse field, with opportunities for all, not just a select few with the resources to lead the change? Could the answer lie in collaborations, open-source projects, or something entirely new that keeps healthy competition alive? I'm not entirely sure, but the concentration of power -we're witnessing- is undeniably concerning #AI #Power #nvidia #OpenAI

If you're tracking #Technology and the Hype around AI, Parmy Olson opinion column is a must-read. The column delves into critical points for Discussion and Debate among leaders working on their #AI strategy. Here are a few highlights: - The AI Hype Machine In Action: When sweeping, idealistic dreams trickle down into sales and marketing channels, AI’s potential uses become unclear. Framing AI as a general-purpose Swiss Army knife for productivity inevitably leads to paralysis for its end users: Where do you even start with a technology that can do everything? - A firm that sells coveted AI chips to a handful of cloud giants who are reaping the short-term benefits of AI hype, even as things are looking murkier downstream. It’s hard to see how Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang will sustain such growth - Further down the value chain, away from the glow of Nvidia, lurk signs of discontent. Businesses have cut back on whizzy new AI tools out of concern for hallucinations, cost and data security. The proportion of global companies planning to increase spending on AI over the next 12 months has slipped to 63% from 93% a year earlier, according to a recent survey of 2,500 business leaders by software company Lucidworks Inc. - Forcing large numbers of people in a workforce to deal with “general purpose” technology is a recipe for failure. - AI isn’t yet a jack-of-all-trades but a master of a few. The sooner business leaders realize they can apply it to an array of niches and not for everything, everywhere, all at once, the sooner they can make the technology useful for them. But they’ll need more level-headed guidance from tech firms, which must resist pitching AI as a general-purpose quick fix and “magic.” Such rhetoric is fuel for a bubble if they don’t. #AI #TECHNOLOGY #SOFTWARE

The AI revolution is no longer confined to tech giants and innovators - we’re now on the verge of the second wave of adopters who will transform industries and everyday businesses as we know it. Use cases are starting to take shape in the sales, marketing, software development, and customer service spaces but it’s still early days before we’re interfacing with a robot on a daily basis (joking!) For this next wave of adoption to really unfold, companies still have decisions to make: (1) A use case needs to be clearly defined. According to recent Bain & Co research, 9 in 10 companies have already deployed or are piloting #GenAI technologies. However, only 36% of executives actually have a clear defined vision of what the actual value will be from deploying GenAI. (2) Budget needs to be intelligently allocated. We’re seeing budget allocation for GenAI projects across all major industries. This goes without saying but the innovation around AI in the enterprise can die out quick without a clearly defined valuable use case. The last thing any organization wants is more tech debt. (3) A firm technology strategy is needed. As we’re all aware companies like NVIDIA keep deploying new chips to keep up with the pace of an ever evolving AI ecosystem, a decision needs to be made on what your infrastructure will look like to handle the evolution of AI models. For companies jumping onboard this second wave of adoption, they need to invest in infrastructure that optimizes their GenAI models, no matter what model they use to get both the cost of those solutions at bay and to keep customers happy with the performance/speed of their GenAI deployments. If we’ve learned anything from the adoption and expansion of cloud computing, it’s that the days of refreshing your physical hardware are few and far between. The same needs to be thought of and implemented when looking at the chip infrastructure powering GenAI models - especially given the likes of NVIDIA continue to release new chips all the time, which can burn budgets quickly. And although the shift has officially started with GenAI adoption from big tech to the rest of the enterprise, the question is, when will we see widespread enterprise adoption that has already taken the consumer space by storm. #genai #ml #enterprise #optimization #cost #centml
