I’ve had a great time down in the capital today, joining fellow technology leaders to discuss and debate the key issues affecting our industry at techUK’s Innovation Summit. It was a pleasure to hear from Lord Patrick Vallance who opened the day with a great reminder of the huge transformational power of technology across multiple sectors and the opportunities to come for the UK’s AI sector. I’m looking forward to seeing more detail on this in the Government’s imminent AI Opportunities Action Plan. I also had the opportunity to join a panel session to discuss the future of digital infrastructure and the gap we need to address. Thanks to Chair Matthew Evans, Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser , Douglas L., and Helen Ewles for such an engaging session. Scaling technology will be vital to sustainably growing the UK economy. But this requires a huge change in how we accelerate and plan infrastructure transformation, both in terms of the physical infrastructure needed to manage demand and re-framing our power network to implement a more effective whole systems approach. And it is vital that we build the right foundation of skills to help ensure that we can capitalise on the fantastic research and innovation landscape in the UK. With this in mind, it’s clear that now is the time for the UK to build some much-needed certainty into the technology sector to help support and attract investment. The forthcoming #IndustrialStrategy offers hope that this is coming soon.
