I am looking forward to seeing this series of CareSearch: Palliative Care blogs exploring issues around public health context and community approaches that address palliative care and end of life. Understanding the interplay between person, family, health and care systems, and communities should be shaping an integrated framework that supports needs over time, transitions across settings and community and societal contexts. So many people cannot even access a provider, a provider who can do offer in-person visits post covid, or risk missing an in-person visit due to transportation, child care, illness or many other reasons. Let’s stop creating barriers to #mentalhealth care.

This is a staggering statistic. Telehealth has opened up access for large swaths of the country with little to no behavioral health resources. Interstate licensing compacts and attempts to reduce occupational licensing burdens are additional tools that broaden the pool of talented providers. Still, we must recognize that telehealth is only one treatment method for some situations. There is something lost when you are not able to engage in person. For some, performing their ADLs and showing up somewhere on time is an important part of their treatment. I have been in situations where the smell of someone or the way they walk have been important clues to their mental state. We should find solutions that support high-quality and effective care. #telehealth #behavioralhealth #sud #addiction #recovery

During this Health Awareness Month, it's important to recognize that Palliative care should be provided in accordance with the principles of universal health coverage. This means that all individuals, regardless of their income, disease type, or age, should have access to a nationally-determined set of basic health services, which includes palliative care. In order to ensure that poor and marginalized population groups receive the necessary care, financial and social protection systems must take into account the human right to access palliative care. #APCC #palliativecare #HealthAwarenessMonth
