The profession of professional resume writing is absolutely exploding today with a Google search for resume writing returning a whopping 1.15 billion results. But if you’re considering resume writing for your second act or you’re on that entrepreneurial path already, you’re going to want to consider the six key steps I lay out in my Forbes Coaches Council article: Six Steps To Your Successful Second Act As A Professional Resume Writer. Some of this information was gleamed through CDI’s Critical Industry Analysis survey, which allowed me to document what was working (and what wasn’t) in the growth of resume writing and career coaching practices in the past year. I’d also recommend catching replays of my weekly livestream show where I’ve done deep dives into the how of building a 6-figure practice and am currently interviewing other career industry entrepreneurs to share their secrets. We’re streaming every Wednesday at 3:45 PM Eastern on CDI’s YouTube channel, LinkedIn page, and in our Facebook group. But start here with these six steps! While there’s more to building your skillset and launching and running a successful practice, these represent critical infrastructure that has paid off again and again for members, private clients, and for me as well. Check out the article for details on the following: 1 - SWOT analyze yourself. 2 - Don’t skip training and certification. 3 – Establish a strong online presence. 4 – Network and collaborate. 5 - Introduce packaging with an effective consultation strategy immediately. 6 - Wire your brain for success. Growjunction Management Consulting Program - #10 🚀 Elevating Professional Narrative with Growjunction's Resume Building 🚀 Diving into the world of professional development, the recent resume building session with Growjunction was a game-changer for crafting my professional story. As we navigated through the nuances of resume creation, it was clear that this was more than just a workshop; it was a strategic session aimed at branding ourselves in the competitive job market. Sculpting the Professional You: The workshop began with an emphasis on understanding the purpose of a resume - not merely a list of experiences, but a cohesive narrative that showcases one's trajectory, skills, and potential. Growjunction's approach was meticulous, guiding us through each section of the resume with a fine-tooth comb. We tackled the challenge of tailoring our resumes for our dream roles, aligning our skills and experiences with what employers seek. Learning how to emphasize achievements over tasks, use action verbs, and quantify accomplishments transformed my resume from a bland enumeration to a compelling story of my professional journey. Art and Science of Resume Crafting: The art of resume building was demystified as we explored different formats and designs. Growjunction highlighted the balance between aesthetic appeal and content clarity, ensuring that our resumes stand out while maintaining a professional sheen. We discussed the science behind applicant tracking systems (ATS) and how to optimize our resumes for this digital gatekeeper. The insights into keyword optimization and format compatibility were particularly enlightening, arming us with the knowledge to get our resumes past algorithms and into human hands. The resume building session with Growjunction has been instrumental in refining my professional image on paper. I am now equipped with a powerful tool that speaks volumes before I even enter the interview room. A heartfelt thank you to the Growjunction mentors for their invaluable guidance. Here's to stepping into the future with resumes that open doors and narratives that inspire! #ResumeBuilding #ProfessionalStory #Growjunction #CareerDevelopment #ProfessionalNarrative #ManagementConsulting

Do this and you’ll achieve every goal you go after, not just entering the TORIs. Here’s the advice of my recent show guest, Deborah L. Schuster, CPRW, CERM, CGRA, 6X award-winning resume writer: “Schedule time to work on the TORIs. Put it right on your calendar. If you don’t, it won’t happen.” That’s right! If it doesn’t show up on your calendar, how’s it going to make it into your day? Something else will always take precedence and you’ll push it off and push it off until you run out of time. Taking advantage of career-changing opportunities like the annual TORI awards won’t happen by chance but by choice! Whatever you want to do, pull out your calendar now and block two, that’s right TWO time slots in the next week. Can’t find any? We need to work on pricing, packaging, consultation strategy, scheduling, and client control. (All great lessons we have in CDI membership which opens to our waitlist tomorrow). When you block two spots each week, if one gets snapped up by an emergency, you’ll have a back up. Get your calendar and do this now! The 24th annual TORIs are open now for professional resume writers. Visit the show replay page for links to related free and member resources around goal setting, planning, resume writing/design + TORI information at https://lnkd.in/eyc4UqCt. 🔸🔸🔸 🔸 I’m CDI’s President, Laura DeCarlo. Craft Impactful Resume Bullets: A Simple Framework That Works When it comes to writing resume bullets, clarity and structure are key. Recently, I experimented with three ways to describe the same accomplishment—and I’d like to share why I believe the second one is the most effective. (I'd like to know which you think is best! My choice down below) Here’s the accomplishment we’re highlighting: What - Jedi trainee completion rates How - mentorship program & training modules When - 12 months Now, let’s break it down into three versions: 1️⃣ 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿: "Helped improve the experience of Jedi trainees by designing and implementing a mentorship program alongside updated training modules, which made a noticeable impact on their completion rates over the course of a year." This version is verbose, indirect, and lacks clarity. While it shows effort, it doesn’t immediately communicate the What, How, or When in a concise way. Readers might have to guess the scale of the impact or the timeline. 2️⃣ 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁-𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱: "Increased Jedi trainee completion rates by X% within 12 months through the implementation of a targeted mentorship program and enhanced training modules." This version is structured around What-How-When: What: Increased Jedi trainee completion rates by X% How: Implemented a targeted mentorship program and enhanced training modules When: 12 months It leads with impact, making the result the first thing the reader notices. This approach captures attention and delivers key information immediately—perfect for resume reviewers who spend seconds scanning each bullet. 3️⃣ 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸-𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁-𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱: "Implemented a targeted mentorship program and enhanced training modules, resulting in a X% increase in Jedi trainee completion rates within 12 months." This version leads with the task (the “How”) and ends with the result. While effective, it requires the reader to process the work before understanding the impact. This structure is still strong, but less punchy when compared to version 2. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲 Version 2 prioritizes What, grabs attention with measurable impact, and follows with the How and When. By leading with the result, it emphasizes value immediately—an essential strategy for busy recruiters or hiring managers. Next time you’re crafting resume bullets, try the What-How-When framework. Always ask: What: What did I achieve and by how much? How: How did I accomplish it? When: Over what period of time? It’s a simple shift that can make your resume stand out. How do you approach writing strong resume bullets?
