The Climate Change Committee has just released it's latest Progress in Reducing Emissions Report to Parliament. It finds that we need urgent action if we are to meet our climate goals. The good news is that people in the UK are crying out for strong climate leadership and voters have backed a government with climate ambition. The government has the opportunity to restore confidence and build excitement around the potential for climate action to improve all our lives. A new climate story can power the urgent action the Committee calls for from the government. A story that’s all about making lives better. Climate action is good for our homes, our jobs, our health, our neighbourhoods and our economy. We know that many people think favourably about heat pumps and EVs, but need more support and information from trusted experts, people working directly with the new technology, like mechanics and engineers. Great communication that puts people in the picture is essential if we are to speed up action to meet our climate commitments. Today’s Progress Report by the Climate Change Committee highlights a concern over the lack of pace and ambition of the Third National Adaptation Program (NAP3), which we share at CIWEM. We have been advocating for better reporting on adaptation plans and resilience across sectors and infrastructure, as well as for NAP to become more focused on prioritising action and driving rapid progress in specific high-risk areas. With successive versions of NAP not hitting this mark, governmental approach to adaption has been ineffective and a significant contributor to the large gap between climate change risk and meaningful resilience. You can read more about what’s needed on Climate Change Adaptation in our Policy Position Statement. Link in the comments ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/emz5WzM5

The #UK is meeting all of its emissions reduction targets so far, but more credible plans are needed to meet 2030 targets, the UK Climate Change Committee’s recent annual progress report shows. The new Government has already taken positive steps to accelerate climate action, but a full suite of climate solutions is still needed. For the UK to reinstate its domestic and international leadership on climate, statements of intention and recommendations for action must be transformed into real implementation and deployment of key technologies at pace.
