🌟 Breaking News in Yachting Regulations! 🌟 Discover how the Cayman Islands is making waves as the first flag state to mandate crew contracts for private yachts. In this article, we delve into the recent introduction of the Merchant Shipping Act 2024 and its profound implications for crew protection and industry standards. Read on to explore this pivotal development and its potential impact on yacht owners and crew members worldwide.  The necessity to have crew contracts in place was already compulsory under the MLC Convention for the vast majority of the commercially registered yachts. Also and in Eu waters the presence of any person on board a yacht has to be justified to avoid mainly tax / fiscal issues. This will be a real game changer I would say therefore mainly for crew working on small yachts and non EU crew working essentially on board private yachts outside of Europe who would not be in an economic position to impose having a contract as a condition precedent to their employment. Wage, entitled repatriation, medical expense terms, leave, notice periods, and the governing law shall be detailed. This will start to align minimum rights for crew members working on private yachts to the one made compulsory on board commercial yachts since the entering into force of the MLC Convention.
