This lyric stands out for me. 🎶"I just might have a problem that you understand We all need somebody to lean on"🎶 As someone dedicated to helping busy working professionals to achieve their goals of pursuing an #MBA or a #DBA. More often than not, the challenge of a busy working executive is whether or not they can make time to take a programme. The real truth is that busy working executives have less time but what they need most is the encouragement and someone to "lean on". Recently a CEO registered to start an MBA, initially, he was just looking for a short programme. However, after having a discussion with him, I realized that he was hesitant to start a 12 month commitment because the thought of it was too much for him. Fast forward, after giving him details of how much support was available and the flexibility of the course, he instantly abandoned the thought of taking a one month programme and committed to a 12-month programme. This is a CEO managing a company and currently overseeing the expansion of his company into new markets, so indeed, he does not have the luxury of time. The right support is crucial when deciding to take up your #MBA or #DBA because more than the money, your time is valuable. A problem half shared is a problem half solved. I’ve always wondered what it would feel like to be an associate graduate, and now, here I am, nearing the end of my B.Sc journey! 🎓 This year has truly tested my limits, especially when my second-semester exams collided with exams of a virtual programme I had been committed to. And just when I thought I'd catch a break, I had to immediately start preparing for a final presentation for another programme. It was a whirlwind, to say the least! But through it all, this year has been my best yet. Amidst the exhaustion and challenges, I experienced significant growth—personally, intellectually, and in terms of my skill set. I completed a branding specialisation programme, attended various conferences, and immersed myself in thought-provoking events that broadened my perspective. Two highlights stand out: the just-concluded TEDxSamaru and the first-ever Mass Communication International Conference organised by my department. Networking with experts, emerging thought leaders, and making new, inspiring friends has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this year. These connections have truly been a driving force behind much of my productivity and growth. On the leadership front, I was honoured to take on several roles, including my most significant yet—being elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Faculty of Social Sciences at ABU Zaria. This past academic session has been nothing short of amazing. As a finalist now, I find myself not just anticipating the next chapter but actively preparing for what lies ahead. How was your experience at INSEAD?  Was it worth it? - I get this question almost daily in my DMs and conversations. Let me share why I decided to pursue the EMBA, and perhaps it can help some of you choose whether you would like to do the same. One day, while savoring a cup of coffee on my front porch, I realized that my career had been shaped by chance, not a choice. In that moment, the thought of career reinvention, new possibilities, and a future vision of myself began to form. At first, I hesitated to let my mind wander down this path. Life was comfortable. I enjoyed my work. But – something was missing. As the days passed, the voice within grew louder, demanding to be heard. And so, one day, I decided to change the course of my life forever. To pursue an executive MBA. The 17-month EMBA journey proved to be a transformative experience. It was a time of building confidence, seeing new perspectives, immersing myself in different cultures (hello, Singapore 👋), and of intense learning. It was a time of travel, new friendships, and countless coffee chats that sparked inspiration. This period coincided with my sabbatical. I left my corporate life behind and embraced the space I needed for reflection, experimentation, and reinvention. It was in the messy middle, in the pause between chapters, that the need for change and a new direction was cemented. 🌟 The aftermath? A transformation I did not expect. I went from working at the largest healthcare company in the world to becoming an entrepreneur. It wasn’t what I envisioned while sipping coffee in my garden, but it was the change I needed. Indeed, the EMBA paved the way for my aspirations to change and transform. So, when I am asked about my experience, I have to ask back: "Why do you want an MBA?" I was honoured to be invited by my alma mater Indian Institute of Management Kashipur this month and guide the first-year students on how to excel in their MBA journey, how to crack interviews, and how to build a career during and beyond an MBA. Your success in an MBA is generally recognized by your CTC, CGPA, number of case competitions cracked, or number of PORs. You study close to 40 subjects in 2 years and if you create a stack of all the reading material, this will probably be more than 1.5m in height. How do you think you will remember all of these for the rest of your corporate life? Short answer, you won't be able to. Solution? Just one small habit. 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝟯 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆. 1. Every day in the morning, write what you want to do today - your micro goals. Every night before you sleep, mark your goals status - to-do, doing, done. (It’s an MBA - every day is a new challenge. Even if you have done 50% of the things you wanted to do, congratulate yourself, but if you do 100%, that's great). This is your goal tracker. 2. Write the 3 best/unexpected things that happened today - these could be anything - a serious batch meet, a great conversation over chai, a funny incident..., literally anything. This is your memory tracker. 3. Write the 3 best learnings of the day - academic learnings, learnings from the guest lectures, an interview, an insightful conversation with someone, or again, literally, anything. This is your learning tracker. After 2 years, this will be the best resource you will ever have. This ONE diary is now worth a million dollars because - [1] It will have all your learnings - a collection of all your academic and corporate talk learnings with your own thoughts on how to apply them in real life. [2] It will have all your good memories - something that you would want to go through again and again, smile, and talk to your friends. [3] You would have developed a very strong and rare leadership habit - to start the day with a goal and end it with retrospection. Start today. Do this for just a month and you will see yourself transform into a leader, growing and succeeding everywhere you go. Happy to announce the completion of my Executive MBA program from SP Jain School of Global Management - Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore & Sydney. Over the past 2 years, the life has been a roller coaster balancing personal, professional and academic priorities but end of the day, it was worth it. I am honored to have been recognized on the Dean's List. Which country is easier for establishing a company? Singapore or India? Dr. Chakravarti: In Singapore a company can be established as quickly as in 1 day whereas there are lot of processes in India. How much will be your expenses, how much investment you need to do and what is the minimum revenue you should generate for reaching the break even point. 3. We approached the problem of low productivity and poor mental health caused by workloads, which we believed would be even more difficult to handle in the corporate world. To solve this, we created a startup that helps employers improve productivity and employee mental health. Our success was due to thoroughly researching EY's site to understand their mission and values. EY is a company that has multiple social initiatives for the general public as well as its employees, and our startup was perfectly aligned with their mission. For students appearing in such competitions, it is essential to focus on the theme of the competition. If you crack the theme properly, you can easily win any competition. Make your financial projections feasible and realistic, especially if it is a startup-based competition. Do not complicate things; make it easier to understand for the judges. While presenting your slides, avoid explaining every detail on the slides.
