Article Alert! Title: A survey on authentication protocols of dynamic wireless EV charging Authors: Nethmi Hettiarachchi, Saqib Hakak, & Kalikinkar Mandal Repository Name: Computer Communications Link: https://lnkd.in/gpduy4yi Abstract: Electric Vehicles (EVs) are considered the predominant method of decreasing fossil fuels as well as greenhouse gas emissions. With the drastic growth of EVs, the future smart grid is expected to extensively incorporate dynamic wireless charging (DWC) systems, a significant advancement over traditional charging methods. DWC, offering the unique ability to charge vehicles in motion, introduces new infrastructures, complex network models and consequently, a massive attack surface. To accomplish the goal of such an enormous smart grid accompanying DWCs, the security of EV charging infrastructures has become a deciding factor. EV charging is vulnerable to cyberattacks as it has many attack vectors and many challenges to combat. Unlike the traditional charging services provided in a typical static charging station, the DWC has a complex network architecture which makes it vulnerable to many forms of cyberattacks. Authentication plays a crucial role in safeguarding the frontline security of this ecosystem. However, within the domain of DWC, the current academic landscape has seen limited attention dedicated to authentication protocols. This background signifies the necessity of a comprehensive survey to cover the authentication protocols of dynamic wireless EV charging environments. This review paper examines the security requirements and the network model of the DWC, providing comprehensive insights into existing authentication protocols by scrutinizing a proper classification. Furthermore, the paper addresses existing challenges in authentication schemes within DWC and explores potential future research tendencies aiming to strengthen the security framework of this emerging technology. #AuthenticationProtocols #ElectricVehicles #EV #Security #Privacy #SmartGrid

It's incredible how fast 5G adoption is taking place in critical infrastructure environments, some examples of organizations deploying it that I have recently talked to come from Renewable Energy (wind and solar), Rail, Mining, Maritime Ports, and more. Although each industry has their own operational challenges related to wireless connectivity, most of the times it involves migrating from WiFi (less predictable SLA, unlicensed spectrum, problematic in noisy environments) to 5G (highly reliable with predictable performance, licensed spectrum, suitable to noisy environments, high RF penetration). In practical terms, this approach tears apart the Purdue Model and adds new data flows between critical assets that weren’t there before, creating multiple external edges on the OT side that need to be protected just as much as the IT/OT convergence boundary. That’s where the new Fortigate Rugged 70G Dual-5G fits in well, assuring resilient connectivity and enforcing security controls like Segmentation and ZTNA. SDN vs IP/MPLS: Revolutionizing Smart Substations Ready to supercharge your electrical substations? ⚡🚀 Discover how Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is revolutionizing substation management, outperforming traditional IP/MPLS solutions: 🔹 Traffic Optimization: SDN offers real-time, granular control. IP/MPLS can't compete! 🔹 Situational Awareness: SDN provides crystal-clear network visibility. IP/MPLS? It's like comparing 4K to old tube TVs. 🔹 Recovery Speed: SDN recovers in under 100 μs. IP/MPLS lags at 50 ms. Every microsecond counts in critical infrastructure. 🔹 Cybersecurity: SDN's zero-trust architecture vs. IP/MPLS's standard approach. It's like having a personal bodyguard for each data packet. 🔹 Simplified Management: SDN's centralized control vs. IP/MPLS's distributed configuration. One interface to rule them all. 🔹 Flexibility: SDN adapts on-the-fly. IP/MPLS remains rigid. Rewrite the rules in real-time. 🔹 Predictability: SDN offers deterministic behavior. IP/MPLS relies on distributed decision-making. 🔹 Bandwidth Efficiency: SDN dynamically allocates resources. IP/MPLS uses static engineering. 🚀 Technical Deep Dive: SDN's secret lies in separating control and data planes, enabling centralized network intelligence. It can create isolated network slices for SCADA, synchrophasors, and IEC 61850 GOOSE messages, ensuring critical traffic always has a dedicated, secure path. 💡 Think about it: In an era of grid modernization, can you afford to stick with legacy systems?
