I am fortunate enough to be an instructor in Natural Response Control Tactics (NRCT). It's a defensive system used for those working in probation and parole systems. On the back of our shirts there is a motto..."Be In The Moment". It's a reminder that for us to navigate a potentially dangerous situation, we have to have our minds focused on what is happening there and then. Most of us will never have to be in situations like that. However, I don't know very many people who aren't dealing with stress, conflict, or anxiety to some degree or another. And those degrees seem to be getting higher all of the time. The same idea of being in the moment can be applied to protecting ourselves from those issues as well. For a few moments, just pay attention to your surroundings, to what you see, hear, smell, and feel. It can be preventative as well as diagnostic. The harder it is to focus on the present, the more of an impact everything is having on you. It sounds so simple but it really can also bring about a moment of "recharging" and peace. It won't take away what you are facing, but it will help provide the capability to deal with it. #GatewayFoundation #ExploreRecovery #RecoveryHappens
