Next ➡ Transforming Timber into Essential Products 🌲 Once sawlogs reach the mill, they're processed into a wide range of solid wood products that form the backbone of construction and manufacturing: 🪚 Lumber, Timbers, Plywood, and Veneers are crafted from high-quality sawlogs, becoming essential materials for construction, furniture, and shipping. 🏠 Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is an engineered wood panel made from wood flakes, bonded under pressure. It's a key material in construction, used for walls, flooring, and roof decking. ♻️ By-Products are created during the milling process, such as sawdust, chips, and bark. These are not wasted—they're repurposed for papermaking, engineered wood products, biomass energy, and even landscaping. 🏗️ In Secondary Manufacturing, milled boards are turned into ready-to-use consumer products like furniture, pallets, wood trusses, and flooring, completing the journey from forest to finished product. In the 21st century, process optimization has become the cornerstone of industry, and the woodworking sector is placing it at the forefront. Resource conservation not only involves sustainable and environmentally friendly practices but also leads to time and cost savings. Consequently, a primary objective in woodworking is to minimize material consumption. As an illustration, KUPER highlights a collaboration with the Swedish manufacturer Bjelin showcasing how cutting-edge technologies can deliver top-notch quality and exceptional durability while significantly lowering material use. Together with Bjelin, we achieved the highly precise production of a flooring product's backing layer by repurposing veneer waste from the toplayer manufacturing process. ONE OF EUROPE'S MOST MODERN WOOD DRYING FACILITY IS BEING BUILT IN LÄSSERUD, SWEDEN At Hilmer Andersson's sawmill in Lässerud, Sweden further investments are now being made to be able to compete on a tough market. Investments in new wood dryers, worth close to €4 million will make the company more flexible and raise the quality of the sawn timber. - We also get lower energy consumption and less waste, says production manager Nils Andersson. https://lnkd.in/dr55_GuP For several years, the company has made large investments in order for the sawmill to have modern equipment. Impregnation works and painting are some examples of investments made - and now they will invest in three new batch kilns and one continuous kiln. - We will have one of Europe's most modern drying parks when this is ready, says Nils Andersson. FAMILY BUSINESS AB Hilmer Andersson is today the only family-owned sawmill in Värmland county, Sweden. The company was started in the 1920s by Nils Andersson's great-grandfather and together with his sister Kari Andersson he now runs the business in western Värmland. Today, the sawmill employs 70 people. "A LONG-TERM INVESTMENT" Hilmer Andersson saws approximately 220,000 cubic meters annually and, after investment, will have a drying capacity of almost 300,000 cubic meters. This gives greater flexibility and enables you to saw what the market demands. - This investment is part of a long-term investment plan. We have invested close to a billion in the last thirteen years, says Nils Andersson.
