Personally I think if you announce a new publisher these days and adopt a “we are dev friendly and doing things differently” stance, you should announce your: 1. Standard deal terms (or a range etc) 2. The amount of funding you offer Otherwise you’re requiring a dev to submit their game or ask you to answer these. Either you stand on business and are comfortable sharing, or you’re going to lose opportunities due to a barrier and are certainly going to waste your own time and developers time.

I’m starting a publisher called ‘Absolute Bastards’ who make unreasonable demands, promise the earth and deliver nothing and fudge royalty payments. I think it occupies a unique position in the new wave of publishing companies.

"we are doing things differently" is the publisher equivalent of "the DFS sale is ending soon"

They should probably also post their latest bank statement 😂

Also, anyone who ghosts in the middle of a deal should have to wear a hat that says 'chump' for a year.

Just like I don't apply to jobs without wage ranges, devs shouldn't have to make submissions without knowing what the minimum deal is.

Yeah I'm always amazed when I see pubs say this kinda stuff without any proof. It's kind of the equivalent of companies being like "we're great to work for you can have free fruit in the office" 🫠

100% true. I love this shift where game devs are demanding far more info and respect now, this is how it should've been from the beginning. Everyone's becoming more informed now and less open to being scammed or BS-ed out of their own work.

Good for you to call this out :) It's definitely needed as publishers gets really bad press nowadays because of fundings shrinking
