Many companies make money by intentionally poisoning our environment and communities. ☠️ Most consumer brands rely on these toxic and climate-damaging products – especially single-use plastic packaging – for their business. And waste companies can only make money if they’re burning and burying trash. 🗑️🔥 “But if my experiences as an environmental litigator and a #ZeroWaste advocate have taught me anything, it’s this: The right laws will never put #pollutingindustries in charge.” - Kevin Budris, Deputy Director of Just Zero Read more about why it’s time to stop putting polluters in charge via the link! 🌱 #sustainability #sustainableliving #ecofriendly #climatechange #carbon #carbonfootprint #carbonintuition #environmentalist #oilcompanies #antibillionare #fossilfuels #greenhousegases

"Fake environmental certificates are a heinous crime against the future of our planet. These forged documents deceive consumers, undermine trust, and jeopardize global sustainability efforts. By falsely labeling products as eco-friendly, counterfeiters: - Fuel pollution and climate change - Destroy habitats and ecosystems - Deceive consumers, hindering informed choices - Undermine legitimate eco-initiatives - Threaten biodiversity Perpetrators must be held accountable. Governments, industries, and individuals must unite to: - Strengthen verification processes - Enforce stringent penalties - Promote transparency - Educate consumers Together, we can safeguard our planet's future and ensure a genuine commitment to environmental stewardship." https://lnkd.in/g9nATQNZ

I recently reported on The Coca-Cola Company rolling back its environmental goals, something I expect to see more of from other big companies in the coming weeks and months. It's very easy for industry to talk out of both sides of their mouth when it comes to climate and sustainability. They can do a whole PR campaign around their commitment to the environment while also paying dues to trade groups, like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, to go to court against, say, SEC climate risk disclosure requirements. The states where they are headquartered and where they hold sway also often fight these legal battles on their behalf (at taxpayer expense). While the incoming Trump administration has promised to undo all kinds of environmental regulation, the truth is that federal rules take years and years to pass and once finalized, they are hard to undo through the normal process. That leaves the courts as the most likely avenue for rolling back pollution and disclosure rules. In the meantime, most corporate sustainability plans are voluntary and easily amended. https://lnkd.in/eRKZ3gnN

The international committee tasked with creating a treaty to address global plastic pollution met for what was supposed to be a final time last week, but the negotiators failed to come to an agreement when the summit concluded on Sunday. Backed by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the goal to create a legally binding treaty to reduce plastic pollution from design through disposal has been in the works since 2022. Experts went into last week's meetings with mixed expectations about whether the result would be impactful. But not finalizing a treaty at all was an unexpected outcome. A recent poll has found the British public want the new government to deliver for the environment, with no more delays on key decisions. 73% of those surveyed are in favour of deposit return schemes for drinks containers, and more than 80% said that the new government needs to be “bold” when it comes to pushing through environmental policies. It's encouraging to see that the public are keen for action when it comes to reducing waste and protecting the environment - let's hope these wishes are reflected in future policy announcements! ♻ 🌿 Read more: https://shorturl.at/YWJLP #Recycling #WasteManagement #GardenWaste #EnvironmentalPolicies #LocalAuthorities #LocalCouncils
