At EDVLabs.io we are all about democratising data and have developed a number of solutions to help give insights and access to pricing data for Gin, Non-Alc and Agave Spirits for UK off-trade channel Here's an example of one of the new dashboards we created for the Data Sipper platform. This allows you to easily understand how Malfy Rosa Gin implements different price promotion strategies across important retailers. - Morrison's and Waitrose- It resembles a block of Toblerone, with similar highs, lows, troughs, and peaks. Morrison's shoppers are more value-driven, therefore it's predictable that Morrison's resumed price promotions in 2024, whilst Waitrose has yet to. - Sainsbury's- Had a stable on shelf pricing GBP30 for the last 24 weeks with no price promo slots. -Tesco's Malfy has been running a discount promotion since November 17th, 23rd. They must exercise caution to avoid accidentally anchoring the brand as a sub-GBP30 gin in the minds of consumers. This could also indicate that the brand is struggling, as ongoing price promotions are unsustainable, particularly on premium products. How can these insights help? - If your brand wants to take market share from Malfy Rosa, you know what price points to target when on and off promotion. - Outside of critical trading seasons, such as December, you can ensure that no price promotions occur simultaneously. Better-known brands will always outperform lesser-known or unknown ones at a comparable price point. - Identify retailers that your competitors do not promote or activate. This allows you to support and invest in them instead. In the following week, I will present further information and insights on the topic of price.
