About a year before I upgraded to captain with Air Canada, a friend handed me a book that changed my entire way of thinking. Follow #firstclassleaders for more leadership inspiration 🔥 The lesson⏬ At that time in my life, 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙜𝙜𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙢𝙮 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥𝙨. I was constantly frustrated with my friends, family, and the person I was in a relationship with. Two things happened out of the blue that 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 that year. The first was that I asked myself, "𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙮." This question shifted my mentality to a more open-minded one. I was open to trying anything different in an effort to have better relationships. The second thing that happened was that my friend handed me a book called "𝙀𝙜𝙤 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙮" by Ryan Holiday. Since then, I've read this book approximately ten times, and the one phrase that has changed my life and kept me growing is "𝘼𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙖 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩." When I became more open to the possibility of a new way of thinking or doing something, I started to 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮! As I grew, I became 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙧, 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩 among my friends and peers. My life became more fulfilling, and my relationships became more 𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘, 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙛𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜. As I became a captain, I realized that leadership was about understanding this concept and practicing it daily. As I focused on my personal growth, 𝙄 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡 𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚. 🌟 Stepping Stones to the All India Vayu Sainik Camp 🌟 Excited to share my incredible journey during the VSC training camps held in Warangal where passion met perseverance! 💪 🚀 These camps were not just about preparation but about pushing boundaries and building skills. Some of the highlights include: Flying experience: Thrilled to have been one of the 8 selected for flying and viva practice. Gaining hands-on experience in controlling an aircraft was a dream come true! ✈️ Aviation mastery: Attended in-depth classes and aced exams on aviation subjects. Team activities: From drill and tent pitching practice to aeromodelling, every activity taught the value of teamwork and discipline. Filtration for the AIVSC: These camps were instrumental in selecting and preparing candidates for the prestigious All India Vayu Sainik Camp. The journey was challenging yet rewarding, with each moment fueling my passion for aviation and strengthening my skills. We need more Māori pilots… Mīharo pai te kite i tēnei kaupapa o Araraurangi | Air New Zealand Air NZ’s new Cadetship - Mangōpare - opens up the door to streamline the pathway for pilots. To think that you can be in the right hand seat of an ATR after 15 months of training is exciting. Whilst getting the opportunity to travel to the States and Dubai and pay only 1/3 of the costs. It’s an opportunity that can’t be missed. Ko tāku - how do we encourage and ensure more Māori apply for, and become successful in this program? Who’s paving the way to encourage our Rangatahi? What supports are available during this kaupapa to transition our Rangatahi from a “Kura Māori environment” to an “overseas advanced learning environment”? Applications close 7 July 2024.
