Demands on today’s board directors are tough. The board members of the moment have to be agents of constant innovation in order to make the constant flux of the operating environment work for the business, and not against it. The board members need to be well aware of the wide spectrum of risk and be part of creating scenarios on how to mitigate and how to act if those risks actualise. A modern board member is beginning to look more like a modern-day renaissance genius than a one-dimensional business professional. Read our article examining the case for diversifying the profiles and skillsets of non-executive directors particularly given the ongoing corporate climate of digital disruption, and geopolitical instability. https://ow.ly/uoMa50QrI3e #leadership #boardroomdiversity #boardcomposition #unleashpotential

What sets the best board members apart? It's a question that's intrigued headhunters, CEOs, and board chairs for years. The truth is, the only way to discover what qualities have the most impact in the boardroom starts with identifying which directors create the most value over time. AlixPartners and Corporate Board Member magazine teamed up on a mission to identify those directors – and how they do it. We are learning that their “secret sauce” is not tenure, committee roles or even deep industry experience – it’s how they collaborate with management and each other. It's not luck and it's not random. And it is repeatable. I invite you to preview our findings and meet our first slate of directors who have repeatedly added tremendous value to the companies on whose boards they serve. Stay tuned for more installments to come. #strategy #boardofdirectors #value

Powerful reminder to set goals aligned with strategy.
💡 The Power of Clarity, Transparency, and Alignment in Leadership 💡 Early in my career, I worked for a leader who questioned my insistence on documenting team goals in a shared system. I explained that clarity, transparency, and alignment aren’t just management buzzwords—they’re the foundation of trust and performance. Her response? "You have a plan. No need to put goals in the system." When I pushed back, she added, "You can trust me. No need for formalities." Reluctantly, I conceded. Fast forward four months, and I found myself being criticized for not delivering on tasks that weren’t part of the original plan. The absence of documented goals led to misalignment, confusion, and missed expectations. Trust alone wasn’t enough—it lacked the backbone of transparency and accountability. As Stephen M.R. Covey, author of The Speed of Trust, says: "Trust is built on behavior, not just intention." Goals in a system aren’t about micromanagement; they’re about creating a shared understanding, preventing miscommunication and misalignment, and enabling people to perform at their best. Failing to define the goals for success almost certainly guarantees failure. The lessons? *Trust is strengthened, not weakened, by documentation. *Transparent goals create alignment and empower accountability. *Leadership thrives on clarity—not assumptions. What’s your take? How do you balance trust and documentation in your team? #Leadership #TrustAndTransparency #GoalSetting #PerformanceManagement

This is a gem MaltaCEOs.mt. BODs who must align for the single, focused objective of making the organization prosper. The CEO, who is touching all parts of the business daily, will execute. It is imperative that the BOD is a team which is able to confront each other, in a healthy way. What is definite and creates most of the discord in BODs is the fact that shareholders and directors are one and the same. Minority shareholders with malicious intent could try to undermine the business for one single purpose, capitalizing on the information and opportunities at hand. This is not just illegal but definitely a road to disaster. Family businesses and startups with no previous BOD experience suffer a lot from these challenges.

📢 Have you ever wondered what an advisory board can bring to a governance board? 🤔 In today's dynamic business landscape, a high-performing board goes beyond good governance. Today, I stumbled upon a thought-provoking article titled "Boards and the Art of the possible" It highlighted the pivotal role of the chair and non-executive directors in combining oversight and technical expertise with meaningful conversations with key executives. After reading the article, it became (more) clearer that an advisory board (and its Chair) can add immense value to the governance board, amplifying its effectiveness. An advisory board brings a wealth of expertise and insights to the table, supporting the governance board in making informed decisions on performance, strategy, and risk. By fostering an environment of trust and collaboration, executive and non-executive directors can engage in open and robust conversations that drive organisational success. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dKU3Swtq #AdvisoryBoard #GovernanceBoard #BoardPerformance #GoodGovernance #Leadership #TrustAndCollaboration #BusinessDisruption Advisory Board Centre #certifiedchairofavisoryboards
