Good News for Liberty South Africa and Liberty Australia as Qantas set to double JNB capacity... On September 30, Qantas will start using an Airbus A380 superjumbo on its services from Sydney to Johannesburg, doubling its capacity on every flight. Michi Messner, Regional Manager Africa for the airline, was a very exciting development for the route. “This adds 55 000 seats per year, and our peak period capacity will be doubled. Our flights on the currently used Boeing Dreamliner have 236 seats. This will rise to a total of 485 seats.” Messner says the A380 will be configured in a four-class interior with 14 first-class suites, 70 business-class seats (currently the number is 42), 60 premium economy seats (currently 28) and 341 economy-class seats. And more exciting news is that the aircraft will have an onboard lounge seating 10 passengers (only for premium-class passengers). Messner says the flight frequency, once the A380 is introduced, will toggle between five and six flights per week. Day 3 - -Australian Airports Association - 2024 National Conference. Airports of Tomorrow: Innovation & Excellence. Some serious diversity of issues across our 2nd last day. But also some constant themes including thr Aistralian airport sector - both our capital city gateways, regional and many smaller ports - are excitingly tackling sustainable growth - by investing for the customer and the likely regulatory requirements for the future. Sydney Airport growth trajectory which can reach 70m annual pax inside the next 20 years, will do so by busting the myths that our major international gateway is continuing to very efficiently run operationally and with Mgt’s clear eye on the passenger experience of today & tmrw. Our host Brisbane Airport Corporation have such an impressive vision - BNE 2050 - but the work soon ahead for the new Terminal 3 - will transform both the precinct & Australian aviation. No local airport serves more direct routes than BNE (52 domestic, 32 Int’l). As CEO had to do a some heavy lifting facilitating on two still critical topic areas - Airport Accessibilty & Progress with Seamless Pax Travel. Thank you to all our panelists. I hate singling out but Zack Alcott & the team at Get Skilled Access opened the day with a flying start & provided the proof points & approaches Airports are taking on under their own steam to meet the diversity of airline flyer needs. Up to 1 in 2 passengers with accessibility needs has trepidation or simply won’t fly. We can change this! A shout out to Melbourne Airport Adelaide Airport Limited & Sunshine Coast Airport for their accessibility programs & journey here. Wendi Pearce Alicia Wagner @toby flatley Truly getting a more seamless, paper free, efficient, but safe and secure Int’l travel experience in & out of Australia’s border must remain our near goal. Watch this space for a renewed effort by the AAA & our closest industry colleagues such as Tourism & Transport Forum #aviation #airports #accessibilty #customer #auspol #ausbiz #vision #travel #visitoreconomy Margy Osmond
