Hang around the Lake Road painted cycleway at rush hour and it won’t be long before a hundred commuters have whizzed or ambled past, some calling out a cheery “Good morning!” as they pass. The same is true of the Orewa Path, which sees over 400 bikes pass per day at peak season. The Shore loves to cycle, whether it’s for reliable transport, an affordable A-to-B, for wellbeing, for the planet, or simply for the sheer joy of feeling the wind in your hair and the satisfaction of knowing your own muscles have gotten you there.

Drop it like it's hot! The best dropper seatposts and levers for gravel bikes 2024 Do you want more speed, control and awesomeness from your gravel bike? Then you want a dropper seatpost. Here's our pick of the best posts and levers your money can buy (whatever your budget) Commonplace on mountain bikes, dropper posts allow you to easily lower the height of your saddle. In turn, this allows you more space to move your weight around in order to get more grip and better control of your bike. Typically, most people think about using a dropper to allow them to get their weight lower and further back on steep terrain, but this is only a small part of it. Being able to drop your center of gravity, lean into corners and get out of the wind can all really help with better control and speed on all sorts of terrain. Not only is this an obvious benefit for many a gravel rider, but roadies are starting to see the benefit too (just ask Matej Mohoric). If you fancy upgrading to a dropper post, then there are plenty available. In fact, there are so many available that narrowing down your choice can be difficult. To help, we’ve reviewed eight top gravel dropper posts and levers in this guide, separating into 'budget' and 'top end' posts. To make this as 'gravel specific' as possible, we’ve only tested posts that are most likely to be suitable for gravel bikes: 27.2mm diameter, drop of 100mm or less and have a lever that is compatible with drop handlebars. https://lnkd.in/g_Sr43ub

All the best to the champs braving it today at The Nairobi Backyard Ultra. Honoured to be one of the partners in support..A real test of endurance and mental fortitude. 6.7 kms per hour for 48 hrs. Fathom that. Runners today will be enduring sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and varying weather conditions. According to Lazarus Lake the inventor of The backyard run , most runners drop off because of their diminishing mental strength to carry on.He says the hardest part of the course is between your chair and the starting corral".[8] When a runner displays pain or fatigue, it often motivates the other runners to carry on because they expect him or her to give u The race is over when only one runner remains to complete a lap. This runner is marked as the winner and only finisher, with all other runners receiving a "DNF" (Did Not Finish). The runner who completes the second-most laps in a race is often referred to as the "assist", in the sense that their effort is ultimately what determines how long the race is allowed to continue--there is no predefined end length or time in a backyard ultra, as long as multiple runners can complete each loop within an hour. As every runner has to start the next round at exactly the same time, a fast runner does not have an advantage over slower ones. While running too fast will burn the energy reserves, a slow speed will not allow enough rest before the next round. Thus, the main challenge lies in maintaining the running speed over dozens of hours, getting enough rest, and spending the resting time as efficiently as possible — with either a massage, a power nap, a restroom visit, or getting food and drinks. The most successful Backyard Ultra runners strive for a resting time of 14 to 18 minutes, forcing them to run 4.167 miles in 42 to 46 minutes. May all find their strong today. May all discover untapped inner strength today. #sixstarfinisher #Breakingbarriers #Lifeslessonsfromrunning #inspiringhumanstorun #fitnesswithdavid

I think the only advice I want to give is not to think too much about the material. Of course you need the proper bike for what you want to do... https://lnkd.in/dr7jiWGU

🚴♂️ Props to the Etape Caledonia for their stellar feed stations! 🚴♂️ These guys really know how to keep cyclists fuelled. Their feed stations are top-notch – we're talking gels, energy bars, flapjacks and even sandwiches. Seriously, it’s like a mini buffet on the go! Do I stop and refuel? Absolutely. That’s one of the trickier parts of these long rides. You start so early, so carb-loading the night before is a must. I’ll eat loads of pasta on Saturday, then some porridge in the morning. During the ride, I pack about eight energy bars (some for me, some for my mates), four gels, and have a carb mix in my water bottle, plus an extra sachet in my back pocket. At each feed station, I replenish everything I’ve used, ensuring I’m ready for the next stretch. Timing is crucial – about half an hour before a climb, I down an energy gel to ensure I’ve got that boost. Between climbs, I hydrate and munch on bars. These feed stations are lifesavers, allowing me to keep going strong. Unlike some events where the stations are subpar, Etape Caledonia’s are stocked with everything a cyclist needs to keep pushing. So, who’s with me for the next epic ride? What’s your fuelling strategy? Let’s chat in the comments! #cycling #fun #challenge #nicerproblemstohave

Cows can be aggressive 🇺🇸🇨🇦especially around calving season but Buffalo are a problem year round and have you covered safety 🦺 when being near these fluffy critters 🤔 Bison safety when driving If you see a group of bison standing on or near the road, slow down or stop. Do not approach a bison or exit your vehicle if bison are near the road. Do not get out of your vehicle. Slow down, especially after dark. Bison eyes will glow red in headlights. Stop at least 100 metres from bison on the highway and wait for them to make way. If the bison is totally covered, you are about 100 yards away, a safe distance. If not, back off. It is rare for wood bison to attack people. Bison want to move away or avoid people, but if cornered could become aggressive. Bison safety when cycling If you are cycling, try to avoid surprising bison. Make noise and give them time to become aware of you. Never enter a herd of bison on foot Do not come between two animals, especially a cow and her calf.

Winter riding isn’t for beginners, but if you're experienced and ready to take on the challenge, preparation is key. Here are some lifesaving tips: ✅ Warm up your tires for better traction. ✅ Increase your following distance—stopping takes longer on icy roads. ✅ Stay visible and alert—drivers and weather conditions are less predictable. ✅ Learn snow and ice techniques to handle unexpected patches. ✅ Don’t panic in bad weather; find shelter and wait it out if needed. ✅ Consider using an adventure bike for better handling in winter conditions. Ride smart, stay safe, and enjoy the winter road! 🌨️🏍️ #WinterRiding #MotorcycleSafety #IKCSLawFirm #RideSafe #PersonalInjuryLawyers

Unsanctioned trails. Those two words combined can cause a firestorm of emotion, debate, and consternation. That’s why I am launching a new series to explore this topic … Why explore this topic? Some argue that unsanctioned trails represent a shady and dubious past from which we’re finally breaking away. For some, there’s a level of shame to talk about what took place “back then.” While that is the origin story of mountain biking, many are quick to push it aside and talk about how or why we’ve moved on. Yet, others are tired of the bureaucracy and tortoise-like pace of building “legal” trails. I told you this is a controversial conversation. However, we need to have these difficult conversations.
