Can honestly say this is the longest period of time I have gone without having a AP / LP position. I'm told my resume is impressive along with my results with previous companies. With that said I keep losing positions to other candidates that don't have the proven record that I have. I can only assume why but this isn't the place to list those rants. So here is a question. What other positions have any of you transitioned into outside of AP / LP? So far I have applied to store manager, OPs manager, inventory control and assistant manager positions without an interview. Has retail changed that much or are they moving on from the old dogs for new tricks. Hiring managers should follow the lead of Supermarkets and here’s why…. Now, before I get into this post, I want to make it clear. I’m not looking for a new role. I’m merely an interested bystander with a viewpoint. Let’s create a fictional supermarket. We’ll call it ‘LiDi’ (Can you see what I did there?) LiDi decide their USP is going to be not putting the price of their products on the shelves. Instead, consumers will have to watch as each as item is scanned at the checkout. Head office love it!! ‘That’s edgy, that’s cool’…. Insert your own take on how head office staff respond to something they like. Let’s fast forward to the reality… Customer 1 comes in, goes about their shop. They get to the till. The 1st item is scanned. ‘Woah, woah, how much was that Tin of beans!! I can’t afford that. Take that off. I’ll go put them back’ Cashier sits there bored as the customer runs to put the offending tin of beans back on the shelf. When the customer gets back to the cashier, item 2 is scanned. ‘Oh that’s very reasonable, I think I’ll have 2 of them’ Runs off to grab another. By this point a queue is forming at the cashiers conveyor belt. The cashier is getting frustrated as they’re targeted on scans and they’ve managed 2 in 4 minutes. I could go on but hopefully you get my point on how all this could be avoided by simply being upfront about things. Happy hunting!!
