Independent schools are increasingly adding marketing and communications (MARCOM) professionals to their teams as they navigate a more competitive educational landscape. With families weighing numerous educational options, schools must differentiate themselves through compelling storytelling, consistent branding, and strategic digital engagement. The best school marketers craft impactful narratives that highlight the school’s mission and unique offerings while connecting the messaging across diverse audiences, including prospective families, alumni, and donors. At the heart of a marketing director's value is storytelling. Independent schools are rich with untapped narratives—from student achievements and teacher innovations to alumni successes and distinctive programs. The most successful teams excel at discovering and transforming these stories into authentic, engaging content that inspires trust and connection. Linked is one of many such stories:

What an enormous privilege to present at the Awards Ceremony of my former high school as the Keynote Speaker. It was exhilarating to see the academic and musical talent of the young people. What would I say to my 17-year-old self if I could travel back 30 years? Here are seven points I felt Scottish high school students might want to consider: 1. When you leave high school, you have a clean slate 2. It’s okay to change your mind 3. You will experience failures. It’s okay to fail 4. Don’t compare yourself to others 5. Embrace imposter syndrome 6. Find a mentor: “When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready, the teacher will disappear.” 7. Be authentic. #ForresterHighSchool

Today is Juneteenth, an impactful day across North America for reflection, remembrance and celebration. From science, business and law, to sport, art and entertainment, Black communities have always and continue to make significant contributions to the fabric of our continent. For the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles, supporting links between Black communities across our continent is a priority. Two of our major programs include: The Black Music Managers program, within the Canadian Creative Accelerator (CCA) – Trade commissioners from our consulates in Los Angeles and New York joined forces to create the Black Musing Managers program in collaboration with Breaking Down Racial Barriers to build capacity and to facilitate introductions to the principal actors in the industry, paving the way for partnerships between Canadians and Americans. The Black Tech Express program, which supports Canadian startups founded or led by Black Canadians seeking venture capital in Southern California. The startup accelerator is focused on Los Angeles, offering high-intensity services to high-growth tech companies led by Black entrepreneurs interested in expansion, capital and commercial opportunities in Southern California and beyond. Check out this video on the Black Music Manager Program!

“Slow down, you move too fast”— a summer anthem. ⚫️Why do we grow programming before infrastructure? Or funding? ⚫️How come our big ideas are easier to come by than the culture required to ground it? ⚫️Why do we expand more naturally than we contract? (Boards too!) Spend some time journaling. Listen to music. Get your reflective groove on. Reflection. Intention. Strategy. Action. It’s a cycle. It’s a marathon. It’s not a sprint. Endurance matters. Slow down, you’re moving to fast. No need to bypass the moment. Make it last. https://lnkd.in/g4rR6xbh

The wrong stage can also be, being in the wrong environment. What to consider, are your goals, vision, ambition, drive, passion clashing with people around you? Why? Are you in the wrong class? Does your social circle need to change? Time is valuable, catch yourself before it's too late! #makeithappen #motivation #edmonton #growth #canada #canada #goals #entrapreneurship
Before you give up, consider this: Maybe it’s not you. Maybe it’s where you are. You can be skilled, hardworking, and passionate, but if your environment isn’t right, none of that matters. Even the most talented can fail if they’re in the wrong place. In 2007, Joshua Bell, one of the world’s greatest violinists played incognito in a Washington D.C. subway station. Despite his incredible skill, nearly everyone walked past without noticing. The same performance pieces that sold-out concert halls went unnoticed in the wrong setting. So recognise your own value first. If you don’t, no one else will. The world is full of stages that are right for you. Find the one that gives you the spotlight. - - - - - Share and repost if you liked this ♻️. And follow me Jonny Tooze for more.
