Can you pick a better March Madness bracket than a buffalo? Prove it. On 3/19, a live buffalo will be making his picks on TikTok and giving America the chance to Beat The Buffalo for a chance to win tickets to next year's Final Four.
It's commonplace knowledge that battery cages are upsetting and unconscionable. That's precisely the reason why global cage free egg commitments are so very pivotal. But a commitment is just the first step. It's important that Buffalo Wild Wings follow through on it.
The Varsity
1) It looks like the idea of a fourth National Basketball Association (NBA) package is about as dead as it can be. Executives from Amazon, The Walt Disney Company, and NBCUniversal haven’t heard anything about a fourth package, virtually confirming the notion that the idea is DOA. The current offers are all based on three packages, and all three companies would have to scramble if the NBA decided to add a fourth, regardless of where those games came from.
2) The NBA will likely hold back one smaller package for WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) to sell to media companies like CBS or ION. A source tells me that ION has to be considered the favorite for this package. The Scripps-owned broadcaster already has invested a lot into WNBA programming, including dedicated studio shows around the games it carries.
3) Diamond Sports Group still is a month away from the date that really matters: July 18, the deadline for leagues, distributors, and creditors to object to Diamond’s plan to exit bankruptcy. We already know that Major League Baseball (MLB) will file an objection—and it’s looking increasingly likely that the National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Hockey League (NHL) will, too.
4) When FOX Sports' Bardia Shah-Rais heard about Willie May's death, he started working to change the whole tenor of the network’s 90-minute pregame show at the historic Rickwood Field. “It wasn’t about just changing elements and moving things around, it was about the whole tone of the show.”
5) Puck's Eriq Gardner on the National Football League (NFL) Sunday Ticket trial: “Things don’t seem to be going well for the plaintiffs.” Gardner made his comment after the judge expressed frustration with the plaintiffs’ lawyers. “This case has turned into 25 hours of depositions and gobbledygook,” the judge said in court.
Plus, ESPN's initial offer to Stephen A. Smith: $18 million a year. That's a huge amount of money, but it might not be enough.
Smith has reportedly been seeking some $25 million per year. While $18 million might seem like a ton of dough, I’m told Stephen A. wants McAfee bucks. Indeed, WME’s response to ESPN was to point to Pat McAfee's deal, which nets close to $30 million per year between his studio show and ESPN College Gameday appearances. WME also is looking at ESPN’s $700 million deal with Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions as a comp.

The WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association)’s unprecedented growth continues as the league, which just tipped off its 28th season on May 14th, finished May with its highest attended opening month in 26 years and its most-watched start of season across networks like ABC, ESPN, and CBS. The league also saw remarkable viewership growth among diverse audiences, with a 60% year-over-year increase among people of color and substantial gains among Hispanic and Black fans, as well as a 124% increase in under-35 viewership.
Curious about how each rookie has been performing on search and what WNBA fans, new and old, are looking for on Google, I was able to calculate that Caitlin Clark is dominating the search spotlight like no other rookie in the 2024 class (not surprising given how much media coverage she gets). On average, the volume of searches she receives on Google is about 7.74 times higher than her 2024 rookie peers Cameron Brink, Kamilla Cardoso, Rickea Jackson, and Angel Reese so far this season.
This insight continues to cement just how box office Caitlin Clark truly is! 🏀

I’m a Celtics fan - I bleed green ☘️ So, clearly I want them to win it all. But, beyond the elation of winning, there’s economic benefits all around to them taking home the Larry O’Brien trophy.
🏀If the Celtics win the NBA Finals then each player will make an extra $804k for the whole run. For some players, that’s a drop in the bucket. For some it is a major pay increase.
💰Jayson Tatum had a salary of $32.6 million this year. So winning the championship represents a 2.4% increase versus not making the playoffs.
💰Sam Hauser, however, had a salary of $1.93 million. So his boost would be 42%.
If they break my heart again and lose the Finals, they would each get $323,000 less than if they won it all (1% annual reduction for Tatum and almost 17% for Hauser).
However, even though there is a LARGE disparity in total taxable income, they likely stand to have the net of that playoff bonus amount be the same (because they are both likely MA residents in the top tax bracket).
Now, we all know the economic incentives to win don’t end there because of exposure, potential future earning power, endorsements, Dunks ☕️ commercials…
Not only does advancing in the playoffs boost player pay, it also helps the local economy where the team plays. It means more ticket sales, more merchandise sales, more Draftkings and local sportsbook bets, and, of course, more packed bars on random weekdays.
All of these items increase tax revenue and help local businesses.
Gives a whole new meaning to ‘Bleed Green’! 💴

This season, with Arch Manning's emergence, Texas now boasts two of the most marketable quarterbacks in the nation. Here's the breakdown:
In Week 2, Heisman frontrunner Quinn Ewers suffered an oblique injury, creating an opportunity for backup Arch Manning to step into the spotlight.
Manning's Performance:
➊ 2 games as starter
➋ 9 touchdowns thrown
➌ 70% completion rate
➍ Significant boost in social media following and engagement
NIL Impact:
🅐 Injuries create unexpected opportunities for backups
🅑 Exceptional performance can shift brand focus to rising stars
🅒 Established players may see NIL value fluctuate during recovery, forcing brands to pivot their marketing strategy
Ewers—one of college football's top NIL earners—has had his brands watching from the sidelines as he continues his recovery.
As Ewers prepares for his return, the NIL landscape for both quarterbacks hangs in the balance. This unique situation highlights the volatile nature of athlete marketability and the need for brands to remain flexible in their partnerships.
The coming weeks will reveal whether Ewers can reclaim his NIL throne or if Manning's unexpected rise has permanently altered the playing field.

I often say that if you want a sports strategy (and you should!), ESPN is essential as the starting point.
This is why.
Through Labor Day Weekend, ESPN has dominated college football.
Oh, and we’re now adding more football with the NFL, not mention Fantasy Football.
Expect the record-breaking start to continue!
