𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐈 𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐬: 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐈 Let’s discuss one of the Power BI usage scenarios: Managed self-service BI. 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐈 allows report creators to reuse centralized semantic models which is developed by the dedicated BI team. Then, these models can be published and made discoverable so that It can be accessed by the Power BI users from the specific departments to create reports. The users can create the dashboards using the 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 method so that if there is any update in these models, those updates affect all the connected reports. As shown in the below image, you can see two roles, 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 and 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬. Who are 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 and 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬? 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 is part of centralized BI team, who is responsible for developing reusable sematic models using Power BI Desktop. These models helps to maintain the single source of truth in terms of data. 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 is a business user or department member who develop reports and dashboards using the shared semantic models created by the model creators. They focus on developing reports to meet specific business needs, without the need to build or manage the data model themselves.
