We have a chapter coming out in an exciting new anthology focusing on this very topic in the Autumn where we critique our experience of creating the Change HEROs course - watch this space for more news next month! #studentexperience #designthinking

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve had the opportunity to connect old friends about this book. It’s been fun talking about the ideas in it, and the process. But it’s been really interesting to me to hear about the ideas they have for books. It’s ok to write a book! One of the things I’ve grappled with during this process is the self-doubt and self-criticism. My mind says things like “who are you to write a book about this,” or “what do you know?” The fact of the matter is that, like everyone else, I know what I know about it - as much or as little as that is. What’s most important, I think, is sharing your perspective. The amount of knowledge that you have about a topic can be important, but your perspective is even more important. And you, my friend, have a unique perspective on your experience of life. You look at things from a different point of view. So I encourage you, as I’ve been doing with all of my friends, to write a book! It doesn’t have to win the Nobel Prize, or the Pulitzer Prize. It doesn’t’ have to be earth-shattering. The process is really simple and straightforward, and takes about an hour a day, 5 days a week, for a month. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll realize that you’re writing for longer stretches, or more frequently in the day. And before you know it, you’ll have written a book!

Authors, ready for a game-changer? (Yeah, you read that right.) Ever thought, "I'm more than just my books"? You're onto something. Your journey isn't just about what you write. It's about who you want to become to your readers. Because your brand is built on your reputation and that lives in them. Try these tips to elevate yourself: 1. Become the Gandalf of your genre ↳ Share insights that turn the page ➡ your words should spark ideas ↳ Take your books to the stage and speak 2. Engage like you're in your penning a chapter ↳ Every comment is a chance to add depth to your story ↳ Tailor your interactions to align with your brand persona ↳ Your readers aren't just an audience; foster a sense of community among your readers with book signings and online forums 3. Treat your emails like letters from Hogwarts ↳ Your email list is a direct line to those who've journeyed with you ↳ Reward them with updates, sneak peeks, the behind the scenes ↳ Personalize, because every reader deserves to feel seen Building your empire isn't just about the tales you tell. It's about the connections you forge and the legacy you leave behind. Are you ready to not just be remembered for your stories but revered for the worlds you've created?

Celebrating Rudine Bishop today! Someone posted about mirrors, windows and sliding doors. Bishop was the creator of that concept: "Books are sometimes windows, offering views of worlds that may be real or imagined, familiar or strange. These windows are also sliding glass doors, and readers have only to walk through in imagination to become part of whatever world has been created or recreated by the author. When lighting conditions are just right, however, a window can also be a mirror. Literature transforms human experience and reflects it back to us, and in that reflection we can see our own lives and experiences as part of a larger human experience. Reading, then, becomes a means of self-affirmation, and readers often seek their mirrors in books.Books are sometimes windows, offering views of worlds that may be real or imagined, familiar or strange. Today is my 45th birthday! Instead of a traditional celebration, I’m wondering if you would help me reach my goal for my upcoming novel, A Peculiar Legacy? I have a Patreon page that allows friends, family, and newcomers to my work to support my work as an independent novelist. https://lnkd.in/g3CrBqy I'm offering two benefits to becoming a Patron: everyone who is an active Patron at the time of my book launch (April/May 2025), whose total gift meets a minimum threshold of $45 (my big age), will receive a signed copy of A Peculiar Legacy when it debuts. You will ALSO be listed in the acknowledgments! That means if you decide to become a Patron at $5 a month today, and are an active Patron when APL goes to the printer, you will be guaranteed a copy of A Peculiar Legacy by the time it goes to press. That means if you are *already* an active Patron, and remain an active Patron on launch day, you will also receive a copy! Patreon also has annual options – maybe you want to make an annual $45 contribution, or more! As long as you are in the system as active on launch day, you will also receive a copy of A Peculiar Legacy. I am very grateful to the many Patrons I already have. Your generosity has allowed me to do things like attend virtual writing retreats, take a brief sojourn at Pendle Hill, and to have basic needs covered while I write. Your expanded generosity will allow me to pay for editing, interior layout, ads on Facebook and Instagram, and attend Prides and literary festivals in 2025 so more people can be exposed to my books. Your support will allow me to submit A Peculiar Legacy to at least 20 different contests, prizes, and awards. Perhaps most importantly, your patronage will allow me to secure the design services of Kei Pittrell, whose work you know from Yours in the Bond, Children of Fury, and FGC’s “God is Within Her” poster. Publishing independently is hard, but it’s worth it. And this novel is worth it. Interested in joining my Patreon? Visit https://lnkd.in/g3CrBqy Need a reminder of what the novel is about? Visit https://lnkd.in/exw_cbKg Please let me know if you'd prefer to send a check or money order!
