🤔 Sakana AI: A Fishy Venture or a Revolutionary Breakthrough? 🐟 Sakana AI, the Tokyo-based startup, has been making waves in the AI world with its nature-inspired approach to developing foundation models. 🌊 By leveraging ideas like evolution and collective intelligence, Sakana claims to automate the development of AI models in a more efficient and environmentally-friendly way. This tool is for experts who can verify the creations. 🌿 They are quite clear that these are just brainstorming ideas and the papers they create for $15 a piece are just starters to consider ideas not completed science work. think of it as structured brainstorming. Coming out a meeting it would be much more important to have something that structured like a scientific paper then photographs of 100 or 200 post-its on whiteboards. However, it's crucial to approach these bold claims with a healthy dose of skepticism. 🧐 While Sakana's founders have impressive backgrounds from Google and other tech giants, the company is still in its early stages and has yet to prove its mettle in the competitive AI landscape. 🏗️ Moreover, Sakana's reliance on evolutionary algorithms and smaller, collaborative models raises questions about the scalability and robustness of their approach. But, it's too intriguing for scientists not to try 🔍 Can these nature-inspired techniques truly rival the power of large, monolithic AI systems? 🤖 I'm going to keep tracking this because there's a way of change going on on scientific methods and you writing and research approaches. So, let's keep our eyes peeled and our minds open as we explore the potential of Sakana AI and other innovative approaches to AI development. 🚀 The future of AI is an exciting and ever-evolving journey, and it's up to us to navigate it with wisdom and discernment. 🧭 further reading based on this generation: [1] Unleashing the Power of Automating Model Development - Sakana AI https://lnkd.in/ga3YeB4Z [2] Can LLMs invent better ways to train LLMs? - Sakana AI https://lnkd.in/gY5d285X [3] What is Sakana AI and why is everyone comparing it to OpenAI? https://lnkd.in/gFZrFCb7 [4] [R] The AI Scientist: Towards Fully Automated Open-Ended Scientific https://lnkd.in/gKwumaSS [5] Sakana AI creates an 'AI Scientist' to automate scientific research https://lnkd.in/g7BmK2k5 [6] Overcoming the challenges of using automated technologies ... - NCBI https://lnkd.in/g-izpWbG [7] Sakana AI Introduces The AI Scientist, Claims It Can Fully Automate ... Beyond Transformers: Symbolica launches with $33M to change the AI industry with symbolic models Artificial intelligence startup Symbolica AI launched today with an original approach to building generative AI models. The company is aiming to tackle the expensive mechanisms behind training and deploying large language models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT that are based on Transformer architecture. Alongside that news, it also revealed today that it has raised $33 million in total funding combined from a Series A and seed funding round led by Khosla Ventures. Other investors included Day One Ventures, Abstract Ventures Buckley Ventures and General Catalyst. Transformer deep learning architectures have overtaken every other type — especially for large language models, as seen with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic PBC’s Claude, Google LLC’s Gemini and many others. That’s thanks to their popularity and the broad presence of tools for their development and deployment, but they’re extremely complex and expensive. They also take colossal amounts of data and energy, are difficult to validate and have a tendency to “hallucinate,” which is when a model confidently relates an inaccurate statement as if it’s true.

Generative AI is transforming Silicon Valley https://lnkd.in/g28MSifH from The Economist - Venture capital’s focus has shifted from “blitzscaling” to “scaling laws”—investing heavily in AI computing power and data to create more intelligent models. - Recent analysis highlights how each generation of language models requires 10x more computing power and data, with training costs now reaching up to $100M and soon projected to surpass $1B or even $10B. - Inference costs are also rising, as demonstrated by OpenAI’s new “Strawberry” models, which improve reasoning accuracy through reinforcement learning. - This trend is pricing many VCs out of the AI model space. Instead, they are backing startups that build on top of large language models—developing tools for coding, healthcare, and customer support. - As VCs seek sustainable paths to profitability, monetization challenges arise. Traditional digital ads are hard to integrate into generative AI without hurting credibility, and subscription models face difficulties as AI agents reduce the need for human users.

#AI, Open-source AI models released by Tokyo lab Sakana founded by former Google researchers Sakana AI, a Tokyo-based artificial intelligence startup founded by two prominent former Google researchers, released AI models it said were built using a novel method inspired by evolution, akin to breeding and natural selection. Sakana AI employed a technique called "model merging" which combines existing AI models to yield a new model, combining it with an approach inspired by evolution, leading to the creation of hundreds of model generations. The most successful models from each generation were then identified, becoming the "parents" of the next generation. The company is releasing the three Japanese language models and two are being open-sourced, Sakana AI founder David Ha told Reuters in online remarks from Tokyo. Jones is an author on Google's 2017 research paper "Attention Is All You Need", which introduced the "transformer" deep learning architecture that formed the basis for viral chatbot ChatGPT, leading to the race to develop products powered by generative AI. Venture investors have poured millions of dollars in funding into their new ventures, such as AI chatbot startup Character. AI run by Noam Shazeer, and the large language model startup Cohere founded by Aidan Gomez. Sakana AI seeks to put the Japanese capital on the map as an AI hub, just as OpenAI did for San Francisco and the company DeepMind did for London earlier. In January Sakana AI said it had raised $30 million in seed financing led by Lux Capital. #RB, #AI https://lnkd.in/e_miBW_Z
