SEO News: Google has officially removed the Sitelinks Search Box feature for websites as of today. This was a change that was announced last month and the time has now arrived, where I'm now unable to see the feature appearing within the branded sitelinks extension. It is said that usage of the feature has dropped over time which has resulted in its removal as a structured data enhancement for sites. The same goes for the report in Google Search Console and within the Rich Results Test. As with the deprecation of most rich result features that are based on structured data, Google's advice is that there is no need to remove the markup. But if you do, just make sure that it doesn't impact other markup types on your site if you decide to go down that route. ––– ✉️ Keep updated with the latest changes to Google's SERP features by following the SERP Alert page and subscribing here: serpalert.com
Umm...it's not that it wasn't useful to users.
It's never been useful. I know I never used it once.
Personally I've never used it Brodie using another search in Google search is like putting hat on a hat
I'm surprised it took them so long, really. One of the few actions Google's taken in recent times to help drive MORE traffic to a site vs. away from it 🙃
Thanks for sharing the update
What’s the thinking here?
Isn't it still on ads?
Was pretty useless anyways :)
Thanks for the update, Brodie! The removal of the Sitelinks Search Box is certainly a significant change for SEO professionals. It's interesting to see how Google is refining its features, especially when it comes to structured data enhancements. Good to know that there's no immediate need to remove the markup, but it's always wise to stay on top of these changes. I'll be sure to follow the SERP Alert page for further updates. Appreciate you sharing this valuable info.
