Imposter syndrome getting you down this End of Year? All those fancy 2024 year in review recaps on your timeline sure can make you feel like the year you once were proud of, just isn't enough anymore... A couple of weeks ago I shared this story with our company, and I think it's so relevant as we reflect on this incredible year and head into another holiday with friends and family. ........ If you watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade like me, you might’ve seen that immediately following the parade was the National Dog Show 🐕 I watched for a few minutes and quickly learned something that I feel like translates to business. When it comes down to the “Best in Show” competition where the winner from each breed / class go up against each other to win it all, they don’t compete against EACH OTHER. They’re being judged against the STANDARD of what that breed should look and act like. So a Great Dane isn’t compared to a Beagle. The Great Dane is being compared to the best version of a Great Dane possible. And same with the Beagle. And the winner is the dog that most closely represents their breed’s “standard,” compared to the others. It made me think. How often do we compare ourselves to other "breeds" instead of the best version of our standard? How often do we compare ourselves to another big firm in our industry that has nothing to do with our specialty or trade? Or what about a friend, peer, or mentor's success? Remember who you are, work hard to be as close to your standard as possible and let Great Danes be Great Danes. #YearInReview #2024 #Leadership
