I think this resonates with a lot of HR professionals. HR is often not seen as deserving of a seat at the strategic executive table because we get burdened with the tactical duties others resist or shirk. Your HR leaders are often expected to carry out the coaching and performance management duties that managers are unwilling or unable to do; they're trying to push along recruiting efforts hiring managers say they're too busy to do, thus keeping a modicum of candidate experience afloat; and they're mitigating risk when employees act before asking if they're doing the right thing. And your HR leader is often asked to do administrative tasks no other senior leader is expected to do. What gets lost in the optics of "being busy, not strategic" is the mindset your HR partner brings to every interaction, problem and solution: An enterprise mindset. The desire to break down silos, barriers and roadblocks. Great article by the Harvard Business Review on the pivotal role leaders have particularly during uncertain times.
