Dreaming of studying at Oxford or Cambridge? These iconic universities, collectively known as Oxbridge, represent the pinnacle of academic excellence. But getting in is no easy feat. Here’s a quick guide to help you navigate the highly competitive admissions process: 📋 The Application Process: Start with UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service), as all Oxbridge applications are handled through this platform. Remember, the deadline is October 15th for most courses—no exceptions. Your personal statement is your opportunity to stand out, so make sure it reflects your passion for your chosen subject, academic achievements, and extracurricular involvement. 🧠 Subject-Specific Tests: Many courses require you to pass subject-specific admissions tests, like the MAT for Mathematics or the LNAT for Law. Preparation is key—get familiar with the test formats using official practice materials, and consider additional tutoring if needed. 🎤 The Interview: Oxbridge interviews are famously challenging, focusing on your chosen subject and testing your critical thinking skills. Prepare by practising potential questions, expanding your knowledge on your subject, and being ready to discuss your personal statement. 🏛️ College Choice: Your choice of college is important—it will shape your entire Oxbridge experience. Research each college’s strengths and atmosphere, and attend open days to find your best fit. 🌟 Extracurricular Activities and References: While academics are crucial, strong extracurriculars and glowing references can give you an edge. It is time to celebrate the Class of 2024’s fantastic university offers, ranging from acceptances at Oxbridge and the Ivy Leagues to some of the best courses in the world at universities in North America, the UK, Europe and Asia. Historically, 30-35% of our students matriculate to the United States and 30-35% to the UK. In any given year, the US or UK may be the country that receives the most DCI and Dehong graduates. The offer data to date indicates that this trend will continue, although we have seen an increase in Australian university applications as a popular destination for students across the group. Our students continue to thrive within an increasingly competitive university environment. Selective universities are becoming more selective and this trend has been noticeable for several years now, yet our matriculation volume to these universities has increased. Our dedication and commitment to the highest quality education and counselling provision allows our students to have access to not only an unprecedented number of quality university choices, but guidance on the choices that are the best fit for their personal needs and aspirations. We are excited to support our students in their final university choices and want to wish all of them the very best in their future endeavours. Intensive #PreparingFutureFaculty (PFF) programs help grad students to make informed decisions about pursuing a faculty career. From a long-term study of 15 cohorts of PFF participants, here's what they said was meaningful about their experiences in a year-long teaching-internship program at host universities: 👩🎓participants are more likely to hold teaching-focused jobs post-degree; 🕰️participation in a year-long teaching internship does not add time-to-PhD degree; 👩🏫participants value experiences: 1) teaching classes of their own design, 2) at different types of institutions, 3) with students of different demographics from their degree-granting institutions; 📒participating in faculty life as a PFF fellow is valuable preparation for future participation in faculty governance; and 🗺️good faculty mentorship makes a big difference in the overall experience. If you're leading or (re)designing a PFF program for doctoral students, check out our recent paper in To Improve the Academy about 15 cohorts of Future Faculty Teaching Fellows at Indiana University . Congrats to co-authors on the publication: Charmian L., Leslie E. Drane, Ph.D., Julie Eyink, Helen Hathorn, Matthew Stanard, Aybike Tezel, Melissa O'Neill, Jay Howard, Julie Saam, and David Daleke! https://lnkd.in/gAVfMhj9
