Every weekday, the RIPE NCC (the Regional Internet Registry for Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia) updates the list of IP allocations held by its members. I have a script that downloads this and sends a 'diff' of it to me every morning. This morning, neighbouring each other in the email (purely due to alphabetical reasons), is a David and Goliath illustration of the hyperscalers and the more modest service providers as Microsoft transfers in about 400,000 IPv4 addresses, whilst Mythic Beasts (run by friend of the podcast Peter Stevens) transfers in about 1,000. At US$34 per address (for example), that's US$134M of addresses for Microsoft and US$35k for Mythic Beasts. This isn't a comment on either tactic, there's also a difference in the regularity between the two of them adding to their allocations registered in the RIPE NCC, it was just an interesting illustration of the differences of scale.
