HR management isn’t a modern invention! Its roots can be traced back to ancient China, where government officials developed practices to recruit, train, and manage civil servants. This early form of HR laid the groundwork for the sophisticated HR strategies we use today. #HRHistory #BusinessTrivia

Navigating HR Challenges in a Foreign Company At my former workplace, where I worked as an Assistant HR professional one of the toughest challenges I faced was trying to understand and implement labor laws while working with a foreign company. There were often no clear policies guiding employees, making it extremely challenging to manage HR responsibilities effectively. This experience made me question whether Nigerian labor laws are properly communicated to foreign investors before they are licensed to operate, and whether there are follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with these regulations 🤔 Have you faced similar challenges in your HR career? How did you navigate them? #HRChallenges #LaborLaws #Leadership #Compliance #CareerMomentumAssembly #OpentoConnect

History of Human Resources (Chapter 2) Human Resources (HR) has evolved significantly from its ancient roots to its current role as a strategic partner in modern organizations. The journey began with early forms of labor management in ancient civilizations like China, Greece, and Egypt. The Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries marked the birth of modern HR, with a focus on administrative tasks and improving worker conditions, pioneered by figures like Robert Owen. The early 20th century introduced Scientific Management, emphasizing efficiency but also highlighting the need for more human-centered approaches. This era saw the expansion of HR into employee relations, training, and the establishment of labor laws and unions. Post-World War II, the Human Relations Movement shifted the focus to employee morale, motivation, and job satisfaction, laying the foundation for contemporary HR practices. The 1980s brought about Strategic HRM, aligning HR with business goals and embracing globalization and technological advancements. In the 21st century, HR has undergone a digital transformation, leveraging AI, ML, and data analytics to enhance recruitment, performance management, and employee engagement, creating agile and inclusive workforces for the modern era. Does HR have PR problem? Or does productivity have a HR problem? Do we need to ask not who is HR for but what is HR for? Because it seems HR exists and expands to soak up an over-supply of certain graduates, who as this article states, in the past would have gone teaching. Are the transferable skills of an arts or social science degree really best transferred to HR? A common and constant question in every business, institution and bureaucracy is that HR seems to be the key area that keeps on growing but nobody can really point to what it adds to doing the daily business of that organization. When the New Statesman asks what is the point of HR then you know even the centre left- who tends to favour bureaucracy- is wondering. And is this HR issue another case of where and how Britain goes, there goes NZ...still...?
