🎯 Open to New Opportunities 🎯 Today marks a new chapter. After 11+ incredible years with 2U, I was impacted by the recent round of layoffs. While it’s never easy to say goodbye, I’m deeply grateful for the experiences, challenges, and growth I’ve gained along the way. [Chip Paucek—thank you for founding such a beautiful company that allowed me to grow in countless ways.] [Jen Fields + Abe’ P.- thanks for hiring me years ago and taking a chance on me!] Now, I’m looking ahead with optimism and excitement to explore new opportunities where I can continue to lead teams and make a meaningful impact. 💡 A note: Yes, I have feelings about this decision—it’s hard not to after so many years. I've been laid off twice in my career, and although it's eventually worked out for the better, the in-between time of figuring out my next move has sucked every time. Hi Friends, It’s been a minute. I hope you are doing okay! Some of you have found opportunities since the layoffs! Congratulations! 🍾 I am excited for you and the impact you make in your new role! For those still searching, this message is for you. One of my professors shared this quote so often, I still remember it over a decade later. “Comparison is the root of all inferiority. I am on my own journey, striving for a peak performance.” One of the hardest parts about the job search, especially after a layoff, is seeing friends and colleagues land roles while you are still waiting for updates on your applications or interviews. It’s hard not to compare yourself to those in similar boats, and I know it can be disheartening. Your journey will never be the same as those around you, and that’s a good thing! Comparing your journey to someone else’s will cause more harm than good. As tough as this moment is, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even if you don’t see it yet. Your hard work today will pave a way for the opportunity you are hoping for. Keep your head up! Don’t let these moments discourage you. Rather, use these opportunities to learn. A lot of my friends are going through a layoff: You’re not alone. Layoffs can happen to anyone, even the most talented and hard-working professionals, and it’s completely natural to feel a mix of emotions. Remember, this doesn’t define your worth or your abilities. One of the most valuable things you can do during this time is to lean on your network. Don’t be afraid to let people know what’s happening – share your story, update your status, and reach out to connections. Often, people want to help; sometimes they just need to know how. Your network can be an amazing source of new opportunities, encouragement, and even inspiration. Listen to me... Embrace the strength of your relationships. This market has been challenging, even for those with years of experience and advanced degrees. Personally, after 15 years in the industry, a Master’s degree, and a record as a top performer, I found myself in the same position as many others affected by layoffs. For so long, I believed that if you worked hard and over-delivered, your job security would follow. But I’ve learned that sometimes, no amount of dedication can shield you from unexpected changes.
