#NCRISImpact: New FDA-approved software, Chondral Quant, developed through a collaboration between The University of Queensland, Siemens Healthineers, and CSIRO, and supported by ultra-high field MRI imaging at NIF's UQ Centre for Advanced Imaging, has the potential to revolutionise osteoarthritis detection by enabling earlier diagnosis and improving treatment outcomes. Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition characterised by the progressive breakdown of cartilage that covers the ends of bones in joints. Currently, there is no cure for osteoarthritis, and the disease is both long-term and progressive. Chondral Quant offers quantitative analysis that not only measures the volume and thickness of cartilage but also provides a comprehensive exploration of its physiology. The software's machine learning algorithm identifies critical aspects of the knee relevant to osteoarthritis, including bone and cartilage, facilitating a more detailed understanding of the disease.
