How much human is there in a FFPE block? The manufacturing process for #FFPE blocks starts way before the sample and the OP Theater, its tarts with the #human and with the #patient. Everyone has clinical history, and every bit of data has a story to tell. Once patients get operated, embedded tissues tell another story again, and every piece of the collected material gives the clinician and the #pathologist spatial and staging information that are relevant for the #diagnosis. The collection of materials, information and data belonging to a single patient, is called a "case". Experts like provitro AG can benefit of years-long collaborations with clinical partners, and can follow these stories through time, and with it help study the evolution of a disease. From each block, every slice tells another different story, and the carefully catalogued and digitalized stained slides collected from each block can be shared with scientists to help them make effective choices. The right block. The right case. The right patient. The right story. #innovation #technology #immunohistochemistry #storytelling

🔍 Ever thought about what squids and medical technology have in common? Turns out, quite a bit! 🦑 The latest innovation in needle technology takes its inspiration from the unique structure of squid beaks. This exciting development could revolutionize the way we think about and utilize needles in medical procedures. In his latest post, Bruce Schneier explores how advancements in squid-inspired needle technology could lead to more efficient and less painful medical interventions. As we continue to seek out nature for technological inspiration, this is a brilliant example of biomimicry at work. Unlocking the Eyes' Secrets: The Promise of Oculomics Author: Kristi Sharma M. Optom Student Sankara Nethralaya Oculomics is a ground-breaking field in medical science that taps into the rich data embedded in the eyes to diagnose and monitor various systemic diseases. This innovative approach is based on the understanding that the eyes provide insights into overall health, not just vision. By examining structures like the retina and blood vessels, scientists and clinicians can uncover vital information about conditions affecting the entire body. #NCRISImpact: New FDA-approved software, Chondral Quant, developed through a collaboration between The University of Queensland, Siemens Healthineers, and CSIRO, and supported by ultra-high field MRI imaging at NIF's UQ Centre for Advanced Imaging, has the potential to revolutionise osteoarthritis detection by enabling earlier diagnosis and improving treatment outcomes. Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition characterised by the progressive breakdown of cartilage that covers the ends of bones in joints. Currently, there is no cure for osteoarthritis, and the disease is both long-term and progressive. Chondral Quant offers quantitative analysis that not only measures the volume and thickness of cartilage but also provides a comprehensive exploration of its physiology. The software's machine learning algorithm identifies critical aspects of the knee relevant to osteoarthritis, including bone and cartilage, facilitating a more detailed understanding of the disease.
