These days when you mention MDA Space, most folks think of satellite manufacturing or the iconic Canadarm on the International Space Station...and the back of the Canadian $5.00 bill! But as this video demonstrates, MDA Space is also the trusted partner of industries, organizations, and governments around the world whose missions involve detecting and monitoring changes caused by human and natural activities on and around Earth. Beginning with RADARSAT-1's launch in 1995, and as the owner and operator of the RADARSAT-2 Earth observation satellite since its launch in 2007, MDA Space is one of the largest space-based radar information providers in the world. Every day we collect, process and distribute imagery from space to customers globally. The RADARSAT-2 mission operates under all weather conditions to provide access to near real-time imagery 24/7/365. Our extensive archive houses more than a million images of the Earth’s surface, totaling 90 billion square kilometres – and serves as a vast foundation for change detection analytics. And soon, we will launch MDA Chorus, the next generation in the heritage of RADARSAT satellites. A multi-sensor satellite constellation, scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in late 2025, the MDA CHORUS mission will collect and integrate data from multiple satellites, providing the most extensive radar imaging capacity available on the market in one system. This capacity will range from industry leading broad area coverage with a 700 km-wide swath to sub-metre very high resolution spotlight images. The MDA CHORUS constellation will include one C-band satellite and one X-band SAR satellite operating in the same unique mid-inclination orbit with the identical ground track providing day or night imaging in all weather conditions. Our Earth observation services include analytics solutions that give customers information and insights to power decision-making; from extreme weather surveillance, ice cap melt monitoring, rain forest poaching protection, disaster management, wild fire detection, maritime domain awareness, dark vessel detection to illegal fishing, and more. A tip of the cap to Minda Suchan and her highly skilled MDA team in Burnaby, British Columbia and around the world, who operate RADARSAT-2 far above the ground, as well as some 70 base stations in 25 countries on the ground. Check out the video and see how MDA Space is partnering with Fisheries and Oceans Canada / Pêches et Océans Canada to help reduce illegal fishing through our Dark Vessel Detection series with OceanMind and Global Fishing Watch. We really can find the needle in the haystack. #MDASpace #MDAChorus #MDAAurora #MDASkymaker
ICYMI: MDA Space is partnering with Fisheries and Oceans Canada / Pêches et Océans Canada via our RADARSAT-2 satellite in the effort to reduce illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. Watch to learn more about our Dark Vessel Detection capabilities. #MDASpace #IUU
Way to go MDA help police our Outlaw Oceans (Ian Urbina)! I hope you get many government sponsors to fund that work.
Thanks for sharing! This is really interesting
