"We built an AI-steered homing/killer drone in just a few hours" It's really easy to make scary things with AI. Here's an example. And it will get easier. Having spent most of my career in the defense and security world, I can tell you there's a big difference between a threat that few people can pull off and one that anyone can. AI is moving us toward anyone. What in the world can stop this from becoming chaos? It's not law enforcement - though of course we should try. It could be very hard to attribute an attack to a person, and criminals don't think they'll get caught anyway. The biggest aspect of the solution are norms. - Make sure the norms around AI use are clear in your job or organization. - Negotiate acceptable international norms. - Set up a rapid process for adjudicating borderline future cases. You may think norms are useless if we have a hard time enforcing them. It's definitely harder, but I think norms do most of work if you can get people to agree on the boundaries. It's hard to find biological weapon production and attribute bioweapon use to perpetrators too, and more and more people are now technically capable of bioattacks. But the world has decided this is wrong, and that norm - and the potential shame and relationship impact if it were broken - somehow keep bioattacks from happening. #aisafety #aiethics #education #ai https://lnkd.in/d4T3azdA

The AI Machine Gun of the Future Is Already Here

Killer AI is Inevitable! It has been nearly 3 years with the bombshell introduction of GenAI into our daily lives by OpenAI. I strongly believe that this technological advancement is nothing like before and it will change both the history and human society deeply. In my view GenAI is so much of a deal breaker that its we should start counting the years since the introduction of ChatGPT. And I need no further digging to prove my idea, as every day a ground breaking achievement is made on the front. We all see how good (even sometimes better) at interpreting and producing human language the GenAI was. How it was creating miracles when it comes to arts, once we thought it solely belonged to us in the universe. And as our fears were growing calmed down by the discourse that even the AI was incredible when it came to critical decision making points there would only be humans, controlling the AI. But to be honest, technological advances are directly linked to human greed and fierce competition. It is the competition that decides the outcome, most of the time anyway. And in just three years we have come to the point where AI will kill real people without any human interventions. I am not telling you a scifi story but sharing you my taken ons after I read this article "Ukrainian unit commander predicts drone warfare will be truly unmanned in a matter of months and won't need human pilots" (https://lnkd.in/d5dNc-ps) What field would be more productive in terms of technological advancement, than the battle field, where you either kill, or get killed.
