Nurses across the country are unhappy, and demanding more from their health systems. Frustrated by inadequate staffing ratios, burnout, and a combination of other operational and cultural issues which have existed for far too long (made evident in this Modern Healthcare article below), our nation’s nurses are asking for change. The root of these issues can only be addressed by implementing innovative solutions, like offering flexible self-scheduling options for nurses. Health systems and nurses have a common goal - improving retention, providing excellent patient care, and building a better future for their health system. By allowing nurses the autonomy they need to manage their own scheduling we can avoid nurse strikes and cultivate a stronger, more efficient nursing workforce. https://lnkd.in/eKXdSXQA

A new study in JAMA Network Open covered in Becker's Healthcare, highlights a critical point when it comes to healthcare workforce issues – the primary problem is not the shortage of nurses, the primary problem is that nurses don’t want to work the way hospitals want them to work - and for good reason! As the article states, hospitals need “to address the low retention caused by employers’ chronic understaffing, rigid scheduling options, and lack of responsiveness to clinicians’ recommendations to improve care.” There is a better way… At CareRev, we believe that the future of the healthcare workforce is built around a flexible model where hospitals can tap into a network of on-demand nurses at a moment’s notice. Not only does it benefit the hospital, allowing them to meet the fluctuating patient demand, but it also helps keep nurses in the field by empowering them to set their own schedule, earn more, and live life on their own terms https://lnkd.in/eGRfxA6m

The recent ransomware attack on Ascension hospitals has underscored the urgent need for hospitals to be prepared with a contingent workforce. The attack, which cut off access to the health system’s EHR, has forced a return to manual data entry. Over the past few weeks, as systems have gradually come back online, nurses have been forced to “manually enter prescription information and work without electronic health records,” according to CNN, significantly hampering the ability of nurses to provide timely, high-quality patient care. These cyberattacks are becoming bigger, more powerful, and more dangerous to patient care. While it’s important for health systems to bolster their cybersecurity measures, it’s just as critical to have a flexible clinical workforce at the ready. Cyberattacks can happen at any moment. And, when they do, the impact on nurse workflow and patient safety can be profound. Hospitals must stay one step ahead. CareRev ensures hospitals have a contingent workforce ready to support full-time staff and ensure patient care remains a top priority – especially when faced with the unexpected. #Nursing #Cybersecurity #PatientCare #HealthcareTechnology https://lnkd.in/ewWY4Exb

I ran the Jack Bristol Lake Waramaug 50 mile ultra last Sunday. I read once that the mind gives up before the body. The chatter is our mind stays stop, slow down, take a break long before our physical body actually needs it. At one level, that makes sense. It's trying to protect us. On another level, it can be a real freak'n bummer when it holds us back from being our best. Mile 48, I was spent. Knees hurt; feet were in pain; my run/walk intervals were starting to include more walking than running. Then I saw them coming up behind me. Came this far, can't let them pass me! I found a new gear and not only stayed ahead, but I ran mile 50 faster than any of the previous 12 miles. Looking back, it isn't so much the "staying ahead" that I am excited about. It was the intense experience of observing myself run faster and thinking --- wow, look what your body is doing!!! Great reminder ... the limits we assume aren't real. Different assumptions lead to different results. Master our assumptions, and we master our potential. 🙏
