Today is National Move Over Day, a reminder of the daily risks faced by law enforcement officers, emergency responders, and roadside workers when they step onto the roadside for traffic stops, assist motorists, respond to crashes, and work to keep us safe. In 2023 alone, 50 emergency responders were injured in crashes while on duty in Wisconsin. Wisconsin’s Move Over Law (346.072) requires drivers to move over a lane if possible when passing stopped emergency or roadside vehicles with activated warning lights. On single-lane roads, or if you can’t switch lanes, you must slow down. Help keep our first responders safe. Move Over. Slow Down. It's the law. #MarathonCountyWI #NationalMoveOverDay #MoveOverWI #ProtectOurHeroes

Today’s call to #disabilityaccess - we get on the spot fines for illegal car parking, so what not on the spot fines for a lack of ramp access to shops, restaurants and any public building? It will only be with action like this that the flawed law for “reasonable adjustment” can be supercharged into real change. #access #realchange

Duncan Wakes-Miller, a founding member of our support group, recently spoke with Luke Grant on 2GB about the urgent need to transform societal attitudes towards reckless driving. The goal is clear: to make dangerous driving as socially unacceptable as domestic violence. Speak Up, Step In If you witness unsafe driving, remember your voice can have a significant impact. In 2023, NSW recorded 351 road deaths, marking an increase of 70 from the previous year. This highlights the tragic consequences of reckless driving. Statistics only scratch the surface. In NSW, more than 1.8 million adults know someone who was killed on the roads, a rise of 10.8% from 2022. Additionally, 280,657 adults know someone whose death was a direct result of unlawful road behaviour, up by 11.8%. Let’s challenge the status quo and push for meaningful changes that make our roads safer. Every action, every voice matters in this collective effort. Street harassment is a common phenomenon that many public-transit riders, but especially women and girls, experience on buses and trains, in stations and at bus stops, as they travel between their homes, jobs, schools, events, and recreational activities. A 2022 law directed the MTI to create a survey to help public-transportation systems collect data on riders’ safety concerns. A second law passed in 2023 requires the state’s ten largest public-transit agencies to collect data from passengers about harassment, and make the findings public by the end of 2024.
