If I was to throw in some of my 2 cents; 💻Build a strong portfolio. You need credibility and for that to happen people need to see what you can do. There's no shortcut to this 👩🏽🏫Seek Feedback There's no growth without feedback. If you can learn how to ask for, receive, filter and implement feedback given to you, you'll grow faster than most designers do. Step one is to dettach from your designs. 📉Business Skills Truth is, a happy user means more money for the business. While being user centric don't forget. to put the business in mind as well. Especially if the business goals include making money. This is a concept Kenyan Design Konversations is yet to declutter with the amazing Stephen Jobita on one of our podcast episodes yet to have. Stick around long enough and you might just learn all you need to on being business centric as well. Especially for product designers. 💅🏾Self care Being a designer can be demanding. Take breaks for yourself, find a hobby do something else as well. It is perfectly fine to do so.

As a UI/UX designer, I always strive to create user-friendly and visually appealing interfaces. Here are a few of my do's when it comes to design: ⠀ ▪ Empathize First, Design Later. Dive deep into the minds of your users. Understand their needs, pain points, and aspirations. ⠀ ▪ Simplify, Simplify, Simplify. Less is more in the world of UI/UX design. Strive for simplicity in every aspect of your design, from navigation to visual elements. ⠀ ▪ Prioritize User Feedback. Your users are your best critics and greatest allies. Actively seek feedback at every stage of the design process and incorporate it into your iterations. ⠀ ▪ Stay Curious, Stay Creative. Stay abreast of emerging trends, experiment with new tools and technologies, and never stop pushing the boundaries of design. ⠀ ▪ Test Early, Test Often. Don't wait until the final stages to test your designs. Conduct usability tests and gather feedback from real users throughout the design process. ⠀ ▪ Seek Inspiration Everywhere. Inspiration is all around us. Look beyond the confines of your screen for inspiration — from nature's beauty to art's creativity. Great think needs to consider

As a UI/UX designer, one of my core beliefs is that a truly effective design speaks for itself. When users can navigate an interface intuitively, without needing guidance or explanation, that's the hallmark of great design. Here are a few principles I adhere to: 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮: Ensuring that every element serves a clear purpose and avoids unnecessary complexity. 𝙐𝙨𝙚𝙧-𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣: Keeping the user's needs and behaviors at the forefront of the design process to create intuitive experiences. 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮: Maintaining a consistent design language throughout the interface helps users build familiarity and reduces cognitive load. 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨: Providing immediate and meaningful feedback to user actions helps guide them naturally through the interface. The Struggle is Real UI/UX designers, we've all been there. You've spent hours perfecting your design, only to have your client ask, "Can we make it pink?" As a UI/UX designer, I've learned that empathy and understanding are the foundation of designs that truly connect with users. But this wasn’t always clear to me. Early in my career, I worked on a project to redesign a website for a local business. Determined to create something impressive, I spent countless hours researching the latest design trends and best practices. Confident in my work, I was sure the client would be thrilled. But when I presented the design, their reaction was far from enthusiastic. They said it didn’t capture their brand’s values or personality. I was baffled. I had done my homework, followed all the design principles—what went wrong? It wasn’t until I paused and asked the client to share their story and vision that the issue became clear. I’d been so focused on aesthetics and best practices that I overlooked the most important aspect: their unique needs and goals. That experience was a turning point. It taught me that design is about more than just following trends or creating something visually appealing. It’s about truly understanding the people you’re designing for and aligning your work with their story. The takeaway? Always take the time to listen and empathize with your users or clients.
