Personas work because designers and developers have the same tendency as all other people to be captivated more by concrete instances than by abstractions and generalizations. We need all product-team members to empathize with users and be willing to go the extra step to develop something that will work for the actual users. But if users are described in statistical terms and as broad profiles, that information will not be lodged as deeply in team members’ brains as a distinct persona. #personas #UX

Worthy Read: Output vs Outcome & Impact by Jeff Patton In this short video (10:37), Jeff Patton does a great job of illustrating the value of focusing on outcomes and impact. Even if you are already sold on outcomes and impact, you'll still get value out of the video. I know I did. All of this. 10 minutes to clarity for product development teams. In my experience the the comment about goals (especially tied to a specific - often completely arbitrary - date) and objectives shift the focus away from the outcome and impact, which really matter more to the business in the end. Instead keep the focus on minimizing output and maximizing impact.

So many companies are building Product organizations focused on output, few are building empowered teams focused on outcome. I'm glad to see thought leaders like Teresa Torres and Marty Cagan raising this topic. As Product Managers we should aim to to 🌎 "change the world" 🌎 it's far more difficult but incredibly fulfilling! My favorite part of Jeff Patton's video was: "If you're in the Product business... There will always be too many of these ideas and it will start to feel like your job is just to shovel faster... Your job is actually to build less. Your job is to minimize that output at the same time as you maximize outcome and impact." This is at the top of my mind as I search for the next company where I can help change the world as a Product Manager by building climate solutions for food systems, agriculture, or land use 🌱 Watch the video: https://buff.ly/3JBeMtJ #ProductManagement #ClimateChange
