I'm regularly asked for D&I content or training sessions, which I am more than happy to provide, but sometimes I think we need more D&C training - Decency and Compassion. Too many places talk the D&I talk but are far from inclusive when it comes to their day-to-day activities. Instead of trying to tick a box just ask yourself what the decent thing to do is. If you were treated this way, would it be OK? If a friend or relative were on the receiving end of your behaviours, would you be OK with that? Could you honestly look yourself in the mirror and know that you did a decent and compassionate thing? And if that fails, ask yourself what Batman would do. It may not be a traditional approach to D&I, but it would be a huge leap forward for many organisations. #Diversity #Inclusivity #Compassion

People are craving community and connection in the world. In order to have this, we have to remain in relationship and that means we have to be comfortable being uncomfortable with differing opinions, perspectives, ideas. It's a muscle that we need to develop and exercise. Being really clear on when we are choosing nice over kind is important. Good relationships take intentional practice. Let's practice being, giving and receiving kind. #kindness #communication #intentional #articulaterc
Are you truly being nice, or are you escaping by being nice? I was giving a talk earlier this year where I break down the difference between Nice vs Kind, Polite vs Honoring. It's important at any given moment when we're heading into friction that we recognize which we're choosing and acknowledge the impact that this choice has on the relationship at stake. The people I met at the Tennessee Bureau of Workers Compensation have difficult conversations every day. Professions like theirs demand a consistent commitment to improving communication skills, and I cannot commend them enough for providing ample opportunities for their people to keep learning. When does nice work for you, and when does it hide you? #Communicationskills #difficultconversations #friction #professionaldevelopment

🌟 Professional Development: Implicit Bias and Cultural Sensitivity 🌟 We are excited to share our latest training session for all team members on implicit biases and cultural sensitivity, designed to enhance our understanding and practices within our roles. This professional development session, was brought to us by our own Shawn Charlton, a certified implicit bias training facilitator, is a key effort by the training committee to address racial disparities while aligning with the service standards set by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and the Department of Children’s Services (DCS). This training will provide essential insights into recognizing and mitigating implicit biases, fostering a more inclusive environment for our colleagues, youth, and the communities we serve. By engaging in this important dialogue, we can improve our interactions and ensure equitable service delivery. #professionaldevelopment #team #continuousimprovement

"I'm learning a lot, Nick breaks down the content really well." "My mind usually wanders in presentations, but I am finding the content each week to be interesting." "Very good analysis of what needs to be done when dealing with students with different behavioural or emotional needs." "So far, it's been really good and Nick's way of teaching has been amazing." "(Nick) tells great stories and breaks the content down, mixing it with fun activities." These are all genuine quotes from recent guided learning sessions at an AP in Birmingham. If you are looking for quality training in the areas of SEND and Inclusion, then please get in touch. I have some availability for the Spring and Summer Terms. I'm Nick White, SEND and Inclusion Expert. I support schools and school leaders with overcoming their challenges: through consultation, guided learning, facilitation and bespoke support packages. Reward systems: Let’s talk about it. 🌟 We know that reward systems are designed to reinforce positive behavior and motivate students to act accordingly. However, let’s take it a step further. Once you’ve clearly established the values you expect in your classroom—such as kindness, respect, and responsibility—you should be ready to recognize and reward students when they demonstrate behaviors that align with these values. By doing so, you not only reinforce desired actions but also help students internalize these values, making them more likely to carry them forward in the future. Essential Agreements: This year of my teaching, I started with a different perspective of creating essential agreements with my learners, considering the skills and attributes. My learners collaborated well in this process, and I would like to share one agreement that blew my mind when it came from one of my learners: 'Make friends by putting our differences aside.' This experience highlighted the importance of listening to and valuing each learner's input. Let the learners take the lead, and you will be amazed at the wisdom and empathy they bring to the classroom. This approach not only fostered a sense of community but also encouraged respect and understanding among the learners. . . . #studentagency #essentialagreements #learnersagreements #classroommanagement #classroomvisuals #collaboration #respect #learnersagency #ibpyp #inquiryclassroom

There's a video floating around the internet of some FL Deputies removing a woman from a meeting of some sort, without what appears to be any justified reason. I don't know the background and I am not making any assumptions, but here is what I see and question as a trainer and critical thinker. Are we focusing enough on the human side of policing—empathy, communication, and emotional intelligence? Or are we still prioritizing tactical skills over the interpersonal ones that often make the biggest difference in day-to-day policing? What’s the right balance between tactical readiness and human connection? Is there still a place in today's world for these 'soft skills' without sacrificing safety or effectiveness? #offset #offsettactical #winbyanoverwhlemingmargin #coptocop #training #EQ

Thank you Rashan Legard, MSW, CA for this honest and heartfelt testimonial about my Boundaries for Personal Empowerment program! It means so much to hear how you're able to use the skills you learned in my session in everyday situations. One of the biggest misconceptions around self-defense education is that it focuses solely on physical skills. That couldn't be further from the truth! The boundary skills I teach allow people to manage their safety and comfort in a variety of contexts no matter your background, gender, age, ability level, or experience level. It's about learning how to respond to issues that we encounter everyday from a place of power instead of fear. Interpersonal relationships are complex and having tools to navigate them is valuable to our well being! Being empowered to speak up for yourself and use your voice at work, with family, in your relationships, at school, and with friends is essential to living with agency, safety, and autonomy. If you want to learn more about how boundaries, safety and empowerment can increase your confidence and create more respectful working environments, contact me to come and train your community today! ✨Sign up for my newsletter!
