It's now a week since the King's Speech in Parliament, where the new Labour government outlined what they hope to achieve. The 40 new proposed bills covered a number of different topics, such as the building of new homes and infrastructure, the nationalisation of train services, creating an independent football regulator and banning the sale of cigarettes to anyone born after 2009. Following the King’s Speech, the Government announced the establishment of a new child poverty taskforce. Secretaries of State from various government departments will participate in this initiative, with the inaugural meeting scheduled in the coming weeks. This is a real opportunity to enhance the wellbeing of children, and young people, and the NSPCC and wider Children's Charity Coalition welcome the introduction of a Children’s Wellbeing Bill but have expressed disappointment at the absence of a new Child Poverty Bill. #nspcc #childline Action for Children National Children's Bureau Barnardo's The Children's Society #poverty #kingsspeech #wellbeing #mentalhealth #childprotection #safeguarding #charity #thirdsector #campaign #coalition #childrenatthetable #politics #politicsuk #legislation #government The Labour Party Labour Party (UK) #labour #everychildhood

As Ireland's largest children's charity, we’re seeking targeted Government action in Budget 2025 to support vulnerable children and families. Our research shows a large proportion of families still have to cut back on and go without essentials like heating, electricity and food. Budget 2025 provides the Government with an opportunity to begin fulfilling Taoiseach Simon Harris’ commitment to make Ireland a world leader in eliminating child poverty. The measures taken should: 1️⃣ Meet the needs of vulnerable children and families 2️⃣ Reduce the likelihood of more children being pulled into poverty We want Budget 2025 to: ⬆️ Increase income supports for low income families 📚 Eliminate back to school costs 👨👩👧 Expand funding for family support services The measures we take today will play a crucial role in deciding the future of Ireland’s most vulnerable children. #BecauseChildhoodLastsALIfetime 💚 Read our Budget 2025 recommendations 👇 https://lnkd.in/eTQwSAeg #budget2025 #childpoverty #policymaking #research

Can you help us raise urgent funds to support people living in hygiene poverty? We're looking for Champions to help us raise funds for our Hygiene Poverty Emergency Appeal, to support families who are making impossible choices every day to eat, heat and keep clean. Imagine running out of toothpaste and having to send your children to school without brushing their teeth? Imagine skipping dinner for the third time this week so you could buy laundry detergent to wash the school uniforms? ➡ As a Champion, all you need to do is re-share our campaign from the comfort of your home, anytime during the appeal launching on 27th September. ➡ Comment on this post or email Fundraising@inkinddirect.org to find out more about being a Champion. #HygienePovertyIsNotAChoice

A post-election poll by the Children’s Charities Coalition shows 78% of people would support the Government introducing a new parliamentary Bill to eradicate child poverty. There are currently 4.3 million children living in poverty, which relates to a range of issues that young people face including mental health and wellbeing, education, and physical health. Families from the poorest neighbourhoods are 14 times more likely to be referred to children’s social care than those from the richest areas. The Children’s Charities Coalition - Action for Children, Barnardo’s, The Children’s Society, National Children’s Bureau and the NSPCC – commissioned a post-election YouGov survey of over 2,000 adults, which revealed that 78% would support the introduction of an End Child Poverty Bill. In today's world, significant donations often fund extravagant projects that, while impressive, do little to address critical Humane issues. Imagine if even a fraction of these funds were redirected to initiatives that could truly transform lives. - War and Conflict: Conflict zones endure violence and displacement. Redirecting funds to humanitarian aid offers critical relief like food, shelter, medical care, psychological support, and education initiatives for affected children. Just imagine if it also supports peace-building efforts to promote stability and security in vulnerable regions. Imagine if donations were spent on negotiations, bringing peace, aligning and preserving borders, and identities. - Child Abuse: Millions of children suffer abuse and neglect annually. Donations can rescue lives, provide safe spaces, and support psychological recovery. - Poverty: Hundreds of millions of people live on less than $1.90 per day. Redirecting donations can provide vital resources like food, water, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. - Human Rights: Many faces systemic injustice and denial of basic rights. Donations support combating discrimination, legal aid, and movements for freedom and equality. #donation #help #humanitarian #childrenrights #abuse #war #refugees #money #fund #poverty #2024

🌟 Embrace the Uncomfortable Challenge 🌟 Inspired by Nedd Brockmann's extraordinary feat of running 1,000 miles in just 12 days to raise funds for homelessness in Australia, I believe it's a powerful reminder of the importance of pushing our limits and challenging ourselves. Growth often occurs outside our comfort zones, whether it's taking on a new project, starting a fitness routine, or having a tough conversation. Nedd's journey showcases the transformative power of embracing challenges. As he nears the end of his remarkable endeavor today, let's reflect on his accomplishments and draw inspiration from his resilience. The Uncomfortable Challenge doesn't stop with Nedd; from October 20 to 29, he invites everyone to embark on their own challenges to support critical funds for homelessness. It's an opportunity to make a difference, foster community support, and cultivate resilience by committing to a personal or physical challenge for 10 consecutive days. Join in and be part of this impactful initiative! #NeddsUncomfortableChallenge #ChallengeYourself #GrowthMindset #MakeADifference 🔗 Learn more and participate in the Uncomfortable Challenge: https://lnkd.in/gbfHZRzA
