"Microtransactions don't belong in a single-player game," says The Witcher dev. Absolutely agree! Integrity in gaming means respecting the player experience. The essence of single-player games lies in their ability to take players on a journey, free from the distractions of paywalls and purchases. Priority should be on delivering complete, engaging experiences that value player satisfaction over short-term gains. #Gaming #Witcher #Microtransactions

The most pleasant gaming trend of 2024 is the outsize impact that small, weird games have had. Let's review some of the extraordinary reception we've seen from these underdogs: 🃏 Balatro, a poker deckbuilder from a solo dev in Saskatchewan: 1 million sales in 25 days 🚀Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, a $10 spin-off of a well-liked co-op exploration/shooter: 1 million sales in 30 days 🐱Palworld, "Pokémon with guns" made by a modest Japanese studio of about 50 people: 1 million sales in 8 hours, 25M in 30 days 🏰Manor Lords, a medieval city builder sensation from a small team, 1M sales in its first day 🎥Content Warning, an $8 game about trying to go viral by bringing a camera into hell with your buddies: 1M in two weeks, after 6.6M players downloaded it for free on the first day The mood in gaming is understandably grim over the last year, but there is at least one heartening message being shouted from the rooftops, if you're willing to look up from the bottomless pit to hear it: the future belongs to weird little games like these. https://lnkd.in/eucRiCTX #gaming #indiegames #pcgaming #steam

Let's take a look at Valve's new game, Deadlock. This is the company's first game in many years and it's set in a new universe. So, what do we see? It's a mix of Dota, Team Fortress 2, and Fortnite. Both Valve games are hugely successful. Will this new game succeed? It's hard to say, but it looks like a competitor to Fortnite. It's a MOBA, so you need to destroy the throne and towers. Destroy towers to earn skill points. You can pick up various power-ups on the battlefield. There are teleporters, ziplines, and the map size is huge. Is it too much for six players? You have a team, so you need to act together. But why six players on four lanes? Some lanes will be empty, or two will have only one player each. There are many questions. The gameplay footage shows little action. There's a lot of running around, and it's unclear if it will be too boring. In Dota, there's no time to relax. It's surprising that Valve has been so active lately. They release a new Dota patch or host a big event with a free battle pass. It's impressive.

What's the problem with the games industry right now? Well. IMHO, it forgot that it's business is making and selling great games. Could you imagine if the film industry stopped making films? Arkham City was 12 years ago, MGS V was almost 8 years ago. Have there been good games in the interim? Yes, of course. However, we should not be discussing the years between great games. We should be discussing the great games EVERY YEAR. Helldivers 2 is creating so much buzz because it's a great game, and consumers are starving. #gamesindustry #gamesdevelopment

In this era of digitization, playing games of a certain 'vintage' is proving almost impossible...that is, until now. Very happy to cover Antstream Arcade, a great cloud-based retro platform with over 1.3k classics to uncover. Reliving the joy (and frustrations) of 80s and 90s arcade titles this week was something else. But its great to see preservation work like this, keeping a channel open for the foundations of the industry #gaming #retro #gamingindustry https://lnkd.in/eCPPdaA3
