The Bókun team wants to say a big thank you to Arival for another great event! 🚀
The team had a great time in Edinburgh catching up with many suppliers and partners and meeting new faces! We also had our notepads and pens at the ready to soak up the many industry insights that were on offer. 🤓
W also want to say thank you to The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland for talking us through how they create and optimise their engaging immersive experiences, as well as letting us feed the otters! 🦦🐧

How heritage sites can attract and engage younger audiences🤝
Throughout our 30 years in business, we have worked with various heritage sites and identified a common challenge they face - attracting younger audiences!
It is possible for heritage sites to engage younger visitors, but it requires rethinking offerings and engagement strategies.
In our latest blog, we explore ways heritage sites can appeal to a younger generation... 👇

When designing any product we should be connecting throughout the design process with stakeholders and our end users to ensure we design accessible technology that makes a difference.
I just watched Jenny Nicholson's 4-hour YouTube review of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel experience, which does a comprehensive job recapping her ~2-day experience. If you're into experiential design, then I think it's a must-watch as she provides a super detailed trip report contrasting her expectations with the reality.
She had a terrible experience resulting in what is a relentlessly scathing review, largely because a lot of the more meaningful interactions just simply didn't work for her. The story-driven missions were dictated by the mobile app application and wireless tracker, but those didn't get triggered for her leaving her super frustrated and seeking the immersion she was promised.
She does a really great job of articulating her moment-by-moment desires that I think provides the perfect dialectical context for folks in the XR industry to think about different experiential design considerations that might be able to accommodate her desires. There's a lot more freedom to experiment with some of these dynamics in virtual spaces, at smaller scales, and in much shorter time spans. But many of these dynamics can only be sorted out in physical spaces with 200-500 people spanning about 22-hours worth of waking hours to create what was truly a unique experience that may take some time before we see anything at that scope and scale again. Capacity planning at this scale is a design challenge, and it sounds like some level of randomness may be involved in who got selected for different story-driven missions.
Overall she provides amazing historical documentation of a now defunct experience that really gives me a good sense of the overall architecture of this luxury space cruise in the Star Wars Universe. It was a very innovative and aspirational experience at the intersection of immersive theatre, live action role play, theme park, and cruises that was probably ahead of it's time.
A nice chaser to Nicholson's scathing review would be the No Proscenium Podcast episode titled "Goes To Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser" that aired on July 14, 2023 (link in comments) that I think represents more of the best-case scenario with the experience living up to what it aspired to be. The NoPro trip report happened closer to the end of the run as opposed to the beginning of the run like she had, and so perhaps there were LOTS of kinks that got worked out throughout it's run.
But Nicholson's report provided a lot more visual context and b-roll footage of the overall experience, how it was marketed & planned, other influencer footage, and a really comprehensive trip report. Check her shownotes for a link to all of her sources. It's both a comprehensive 4-hour documentary on the experience as well as a very personal vlogger essay & review that I think will be of much interest for folks thinking about the future of immersive storytelling. The hotel closed, but incremental innovation continues.
Did you know? India is home to over 1,000 museums, each preserving diverse layers of culture and history. Globally, visitor engagement in museums has jumped significantly with the adoption of digital tools. For example, institutions like the Art Gallery of Ontario saw an 84% rise in visitor engagement through immersive apps, which helped audiences connect more deeply with exhibits.
At Pathbeat, we’re harnessing the power of QR-enabled audio guides to elevate museum experiences. These guides not only boost accessibility but invite visitors to explore art and artifacts on a richer, more interactive level. Museums using digital tech have reported a 39% increase in exhibit re-engagement as audiences feel more connected and invested in what they’re seeing.
Pathbeat’s mission is to bring these transformative, story-driven experiences to audiences across India and beyond—one scan at a time. Let’s reimagine cultural immersion together.

Creating Immersive Experiences: The Changing Ocean Installation
I am incredibly proud to share my work on The Changing Ocean installation at Bergen Aquarium, where art, science, and technology come together to tell a powerful story about our planet.
This project was a true collaborative effort, involving scientists, designers, and technical experts. Together, we created an immersive experience that educates and inspires visitors about the challenges facing our oceans. From conceptualization to execution, every detail was carefully crafted to engage and inform audiences.
A short reel from this installation has resonated globally, going viral on Instagram (@jozephart) with nearly 7 million views! This response underscores the power of combining meaningful content with engaging design to create a lasting impact.
If you’d like to see it in action, check out the video here:

What made this project so rewarding was working alongside brilliant scientists to ensure the installation was not just visually stunning, but also scientifically accurate. It’s a reminder of how powerful interdisciplinary collaboration can be.
If you’re looking for a creative professional with expertise in immersive installations, technical precision, and team collaboration, I would love to bring my skills and passion to your next project. Let’s create something extraordinary together!
