Reflecting on her nearly-complete first year in the program, Spivey says, “I want people considering this program to know that you might think your story is [unsuited] for law school, but you have a place here. Do you know why we fly our flags at half-staff on certain days? It's a common sight not just for Americans but for people all over the world. Flying flags at half-staff, or half-mast, is a symbolic gesture used to honor or commemorate individuals or events of national or international importance. This practice is believed to date back to early naval traditions, where ships would lower their flags to indicate mourning for a fallen captain. The term 'half-mast' once referred to a flag being flown halfway up a ship's mast but is now used interchangeably with the term 'half-staff.' Today, the practice of flying flags at half-staff has become a widespread tradition all over the world to commemorate significant events or individuals. #Flags #UShistory #TheMoreYouKnow #MemorialDay

This is an excellent, short video emphasizing the importance of the merchant marine in peace and war.
Credit to Midshipman Brian Son, 2/c, Regimental Public Affairs Officer, on the video production and Midshipman Geoffrey Gumport, 2/c, on the narration of this video highlighting National Maritime Day. Here are a few examples of formulas I encountered onboard, which you may also come across. However, it's important to note that there are more specialized formulas for various situations beyond these basic ones. Therefore, exercise caution when assessing and calculating. #cadet #marines #officer #thirdmate #seaman #secondmate #DeckCadet
