Signed! SAIC and Volkswagen continue to work together! On November 26, Wang Xiaoqiu, Chairman of SAIC Group, and Volkswagen Group Board Member, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group (China), solemnly signed their names on the joint venture cooperation renewal agreement. According to the agreement, the joint venture period of the two parties will be extended to 2040. Since the first signing in the Great Hall of the People in 1984, SAIC Group and Volkswagen have gone through 40 years of ups and downs together. On June 27 this year, Volkswagen and SAIC Group signed a number of project technical cooperation agreements on new products. From the initial technology introduction to today's technology co-creation, the cooperation model between the two parties has been continuously upgraded, gradually changing from unilateral product and technology output to more in-depth technology sharing and innovation co-construction. According to the joint venture cooperation agreement, by 2030, SAIC Volkswagen will launch 18 new models, 15 of which will be tailored for the Chinese market. These models will not only fully take into account the needs of Chinese consumers in terms of design, function, performance, etc., but will also make important breakthroughs in the fields of intelligence and new energy. In the field of fuel vehicles, SAIC Volkswagen has taken intelligence as its main direction. This year, Tiguan L Pro and Passat Pro, as the leading models of the "Pro family", have won wide acclaim in the market. Intelligent fuel vehicles not only bring a more efficient driving experience, but also set a new annual sales record in the market segment, fully demonstrating SAIC Volkswagen's strong strength in the field of intelligent fuel vehicles. In the field of new energy vehicles, SAIC Volkswagen, with the ID. family as the core, has successfully assumed the role of leader in the pure electric vehicle market of joint venture brands with its outstanding quality and intelligent innovation, and has achieved cumulative sales of more than 100,000 vehicles, firmly ranking first in the pure electric market of joint venture brands. In the past 40 years, globalization has been an important driving force for the development of the world economy. In the face of profound changes in the world market structure, harmony and win-win cooperation should still be the main theme of the continuous progress of the automobile industry. Successful innovation is not about good ideas. Heck, it is not even about execution. It is about market adoption. That is why the first mover advantage is always bunk. The first mover winner is often not the first mover, it is the first company that has achieved significant critical mass THAT YOU HAVE HEARD OF. I think Fisker looks cool, I suspect that it has some good tech, some cool features - but the company looks like a dud. Too little, too late is not a successful recipe for innovation success.

Joby Versus Archer: Vertical Integration Strategy Is A Key Split In many ways, Archer Aviation and Joby Aviation are highly similar startups. The two front-runners in the nascent U.S. air taxi market are both developing piloted, four-passenger electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing vehicles with the goal of launching commercial service next year. Both companies plan to start by offering airport shuttles in partnership with major airlines, and both are manufacturing their aircraft in partnership with global automotive companies. But when it comes to their specific manufacturing strategies, the two companies have staked out sharply different paths: Joby is vertically integrated and largely develops its components and systems in-house, while Archer is pursuing a more traditional model by relying on a roster of Tier 1 legacy aerospace suppliers. Both strategies come with trade-offs. Developing components in-house allows Joby to optimize for its specific aircraft and improve visibility into the integration process, giving it a higher-performing vehicle at market entry. Archer’s strategy of relying on legacy aerospace suppliers creates a leaner business model with lower capital investment costs—and, all else being equal, a lower certification risk that it says can translate to a faster path to market. That difference in strategy is evident in many layers of the two companies’ aircraft. While Archer is using more commonly produced cylindrical battery cells, Joby is relying on pouch cells that are more novel and likely harder to certify. Similarly, while Joby is using additive manufacturing and composites to build its vehicle, Archer is sticking to traditional aerospace materials that it expects regulators will greenlight more quickly. This divergence in supply chain strategy could prove to be the decisive difference between these two neck-and-neck startups. Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein tells Aviation Week that the company’s supply chain strategy was conceived with the goal of getting to market as quickly as possible with minimal capital investment and certification risk—although not necessarily the best-performing first-generation aircraft. “Our strategy is to create the most streamlined path to market, starting with sourcing 80% of our vehicle’s major components and subsystems through suppliers with a proven track record of FAA certification,” Goldstein says. “This isn’t a flashy approach; it’s efficient and pragmatic so that our commercialization timeline can rapidly advance with less risk.” https://lnkd.in/gyynMHz7
