Surely you can trust the experts the most? 🧐 Why is there so much scepticism towards academics? 👩🏫 Academic expert mistrust has been fuelled by various factors in recent years. However, there's been a noticeable shift in these attitudes and the value of academic expertise is only increasing. Therefore, it is important that experts are the most prominent voices, not those with little expertise, but large influence. So, how can business schools, academics and industry experts tackle misinformation themselves and debunk it? The main way is to simply challenge it. 💡 Our PR Consultant Peter Remon shares more on why it is crucial for academic experts to share the facts and educate others. 📚 Let’s face it—academia’s "publish or perish" culture is real, and it’s tough. The constant demand to publish, secure grants, and chase impact factors can create overwhelming pressure. Remind yourself that quality matters more than quantity. Focus on producing meaningful research that truly contributes to your field, rather than chasing arbitrary publication counts. I help academics manage these pressures by building strategies to focus on impactful work while maintaining a healthy balance. I can help navigate the academic landscape without burning out. #PublishOrPerish #Academia #ResearchImpact #WellBeing

🗣️ Talking to the public? #ResearchIntegrity still applies The need for research integrity doesn’t end when the results are published in an academic journal or monograph. It should also shape communication with the public, from press interviews to social media posts. This is the message of LERU's new advice paper, which underlines the need to communicate with integrity and suggests support that universities can give academics. 💬 “There is a lot of evidence to suggest that academic research remains widely trusted by the public, but integrity failures, both in the research process and in communication, can undermine that trust,” says Dr Rhys Morgan, Head of Research Policy, Governance and Integrity at the University of Cambridge and lead author of the paper. The advice paper outlines four areas where universities can focus their efforts to support communication with integrity: 🔸 Openness in research communication 🔸 Communicating uncertainty 🔸 Social media and similar communications platforms 🔸 Communications skills that facilitate integrity To find out more: Read the interview with Dr Morgan 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJU9MYBQ Download the paper 👉 https://lnkd.in/eieDcfxK

Australia undoubtedly has outstanding research, after 10 years of research I can attest to that, Australian research also has global benefits that with better commercialization could be more competitive and of greater value globally, yet after reading this post the so what question came to my mind immediately, nationally our innovation is minimal top corporations for instance have hardly any innovation in comparison to top corporations globally, moreover our unicorn stand is so bad that we can hardly compete or there is a need to move overseas for success, is this list a good example of our insular status? #unicorns The University of Queensland The Australian Financial Review #innovation
Performance across teaching, research, equity and career impact delivered the The University of Queensland pole position in the AFR Best Universities Ranking for the second year in a row.

Please share Today, I’m addressing a concerning experience in the academic publishing process. After my manuscript was recommended for acceptance with minor revisions by peer reviewers, it was unexpectedly rejected by the editors. #JournalofInterventionandStatebuilding Taylor & Francis Research Insights This decision feels inconsistent with the peer review process, raising questions about fairness and transparency, especially for researchers from the Global South. Academic publishing should uphold these principles, ensuring equal opportunities for all scholars. I’ve raised these concerns with the journal and publisher, and I believe it’s important we continue advocating for a more inclusive and equitable system. #AcademicPublishing #PeerReview #ResearchIntegrity #EquityInAcademia

🎓 Dispelling the Academic Myth: Quality Over Quantity 🚫📚 Myth: More publications mean greater success in academia. Reality: While publications are crucial and play a significant role in measuring one's performance when climbing the ladder of success in academia, the emphasis should be on quality, not quantity. Meaningful contributions, impactful research, and genuine engagement hold more weight than a sheer volume of publications. Let's shift the focus from numbers to the profound impact of our academic pursuits. #AcademicMythBusting #QualityOverQuantity #ResearchMatters 📊🔍 #BuildMyBrandChallengeWithHexa

Knowledge should be available to everyone, but knowledge generated through academic research is usually i̷n̷a̷c̷c̷e̷s̷s̷i̷b̷l̷e̷ ̷b̷y̷ ̷d̷e̷s̷i̷g̷n̷. Deeply entrenched barriers dissuade academics from popular modes of communication and engagement. But, according to Dallas Rogers, engaging in these spaces is critical. ♥ “We will now need to enter the communication landscape as it is, the TikToks and the YouTubing and the podcasting and we’ll need to demonstrate in that environment that we are knowledge experts.” ♥ The way of old university communication, “They want you to stand there in a suit and tie, and they want you to dispense the knowledge you learned in your latest piece of research.” This doesn't work with contemporary audiences, and “There’s an aesthetic and a performance there that I think, actually, doesn’t represent what an academic is these days.” ♥ By innovating research dissemination and engagement, “Ultimately, the benefit is just that academics will be more relevant in the world”. ♥ And Dallas is driven to do this kind of work because “I think I'm having an impact in a space beyond the academic journal article.” And, he thinks it is fun. It was great to chat with Dallas about research, engagement and impact. Check out the article in the comments. #researchimpact

Ever heard of a diversity essay? It is required by some schools when you're applying for postgraduate studies. It's a brief essay that's majorly about describing how you will contribute to the diversity of the student body in the school. In writing this essay, do this: Describe your leadership, work experience, service experience, or other significant involvement with racial, ethnic, socio-economic, or educational communities. These communities could have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Discuss how your experiences would promote a diversity of views, experiences, and ideas in the pursuit of research, scholarship, and creative excellence. You should also include how you have overcome a disadvantage or other impediments to success in higher education. Also discuss why you are deserving of admission to the school. Last tip: Don't forget to infuse some storytelling. 😉 Your story is unique. Your unique story adds bright colours to the world's diversity. So... Tell it!
