According to a recent survey of CMOs, marketing budgets are averaging 7.7% of revenue this year. That’s the lowest marketing spend since the pandemic ended. In the four years before the pandemic, marketing spend averaged 11%. If it feels like marketers are being asked to do more with less, it’s because they are. Historically, B2B marketing budgets have been about 2/3 of B2C, but it looks like they’re closer to parity now. How many emails should DTC brands have in each of their flows? Typically 8-12 emails. Think that’s too much? That’s probably because your email marketer has you conditioned to believe 3-4 is satisfactory. Klaviyo also neglects this aspect in their publications, leaving agencies to decide on what’s most comfortable and cost-effective for them. Don’t adopt false beliefs because of lazy service providers. Email flows are one of the highest leverage digital marketing tools. Period. It’s almost like passive income in real estate, except you don’t need to worry about tenants, debt, or market downturns. Once they’re set up correctly, you’ll start printing money. Might as well take the time to build them properly.
