Following yesterday’s ERCOT board meeting, the state’s grid operator projects that peak power demand on the #TXenergy grid could increase by roughly 78% to 152 gigawatts, nearly doubling by 2030. This eye popping rise follows nearly two decades of steady 1% annual growth.
ERCOT CEO Pablo Vegas stated, “Batteries, I believe, are going to respond and start to fill in a lot of that,” while also noting that 346 GWs of generation resources are in the development pipeline, including 155 GWs of solar, 141 GWs of battery storage, 35 GWs of wind and 15 GWs of natural gas.
Renewable + dispatchable energy resources are indeed helping provide much needed supply at a low cost to Texans, however let’s not forget about the demand side of the equation. Texas needs more energy efficiency. https://ow.ly/h8Qq50Rn91F
