☑️ *READ ABSTRACT BELOW:* Keywords: Closeness; Infant; NICU; Parents; Separation. Part 1: Objective: To identify and understand how parents develop a close bond to their infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Design: A qualitative descriptive study; closeness and separation stories recorded in a smartphone application by the parents were analyzed using thematic analysis. Setting and participants: Twenty-three parents of nineteen infants who were taken care of in a level III NICU in Finland. Findings: Bonding moments and a disrupted dyadic parent-infant relationship continuously alternated as in a rollercoaster ride during the hospital stay. Transitions from closeness to separation and vice versa were the most emotional stages on the journey. Parents had a natural desire to be close and create a bond with their infants; however, they accepted the separation as part of NICU care.(...) As a parent or educator, you hold the key to unlocking a world of possibilities for young minds. Research shows that exposing children to books from a young age not only boosts their cognitive development but also nurtures their emotional intelligence and creativity. Did you know that children who are read to regularly are more likely to excel academically and develop strong communication skills? According to a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, reading aloud to children enhances language acquisition and literacy skills, setting them up for success in school and beyond. But it’s not just about academic achievement; it’s about fostering a love for learning and exploration. Imagine the joy on a child’s face as they dive into a colorful storybook, traveling to far-off lands, meeting fantastical creatures, and experiencing adventures right from their cozy reading nook. Books also play a crucial role in building empathy and understanding. Through stories, children learn about different cultures, perspectives, and life experiences, fostering compassion and open-mindedness from a young age. So, why wait? “Thus, it is possible that the detection of happy faces is transmitted intergenerationally via sensitive caregiving, which often involves caregiver co-regulation of negative emotion and experiences of “mutual delight” or shared positive affect (Ainsworth, 1967). Critically, sensitivity appears to be independent of mothers’ expression of positive emotion within the same mother-infant interaction— that is, sensitive mothers are not simply more expressive or “smiley,” but rather emotionally attuned to the signals of the infant (Stern et al., 2023). Together, results suggest that the recognition of positive emotion is an important and underappreciated facet of early caregiver–child interaction, with implications for the development of the social brain.” #attachmenttheory #neuroscience #infantdevelopment #attunement #playtherapy #filialtherapy

Pragmatic language refers to how we use communication in social situations. It's not just about what we say, but how, when, and why we say it. For children, developing these skills is important for forming friendships, participating in conversations, and working with others in school and everyday life. Pragmatic language skills include: ✅ Using language for different purposes: This means knowing how to ask for help, greet others, make requests, or share information. ✅ Adapting language to different situations: Children need to learn how to adjust their speech depending on who they're talking to, whether it's a peer, teacher, or family member. ✅ Following social rules in conversation: Skills like taking turns when talking, staying on topic, respecting personal space, and reading body language are essential for effective communication. The findings showed about a 3% score decrease in communication and about 2% score in personal-social and problem-solving skill domains. However, there are no changes in skill domains of fine or gross motor. Researchers were more concerned regarding infants as they have spent most of the time in their homes but the result was assuring. https://lnkd.in/g33vqGNK #pandemic #childrensdevelopment #covid19pandemic

Today, out team had the privilege of working alongside a dedicated team at Kidzee Pre-school, where we conducted a comprehensive, free-of-cost assessment for children aged 2-5 years. Our team included a skilled Pediatrician, a Clinical Psychologist, and two passionate interns. We assessed key developmental domains, including: - Cognitive Development (problem-solving, memory, and learning abilities) - Physical Development (motor skills, coordination, and growth) - Social Development (interaction with peers, sharing, and empathy) - Language Development (speech, communication, and vocabulary) - Emotional Development (self-regulation, expressing feelings, and empathy) - Creative Development (imagination, play, and artistic expression) - Adaptive (Self-help) Development (independence in daily tasks) - Overall Development (an overall view of the child’s progress across all areas) It was an enriching experience to assess the holistic development of these young minds. The insights gained will be valuable for identifying early developmental needs, strengths, and areas that may benefit from additional support. Such initiatives remind us of the importance of early intervention and a multidisciplinary approach in shaping the future of our children. Grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with a wonderful team in creating a positive impact on the lives of these children. Looking forward to more such endeavors to promote healthy development and well-being for all children! #ChildDevelopment #EarlyIntervention #MultidisciplinaryCare #Psychology #PediatricCare #CognitiveDevelopment #LanguageDevelopment #SocialDevelopment #EmotionalDevelopment
